NAFTA was not just Bill Clinton. NAFTA had passed congress and the senate under Bush but Bush never had tie to sign it before he left office. It was laying on Bill's desk when he took office. Don't get me wrong, I am not taking up for Bill. I don't like that he signed the bill any more than you do. Like I said, politics is about the less of two evils.
Really centless?? Can you remember how many "Manufacturing Jobs" Wilkes County alone had in 1993 and after Bill was signed how many were left 2-3 years later???
NAFTA was a mistake. That is a given. It was backed by both parties. It was designed to make profit for the wealthy. Neither party considered the working Americans. It is true we are being screwed by both parties. We just have to chose between the less of two evils.
Lester white, I wonder if you are telling the truth? It actually sounds like it might be true. Something happened in the last few months. Reagan used the military, maybe Biden should do that also.
I was not living in Wilkes County at the time however, the company I was working for closed its doors and went off shore putting a lot of people on the street including myself.
Really centless?? Can you remember how many "Manufacturing Jobs" Wilkes County alone had in 1993 and after Bill was signed how many were left 2-3 years later???
centless how could you skip over and forget "NAFTA" and the "Gold Deal"?? But, since ya love the previous Admin so well here's a short clip to watch.....
What's up Les cat got your keyboard? Didn't think anyone was old enough to remember when the government was aiding and abetting companies to go off shore didja. Typical Republican false propaganda, rely on peoples short memories.
They started off going to Mexico but when they found out the far east had even cheaper labor markets they went there. And the best part (if you can call it that) is the government gave them tax breaks to offset the costs of moving their manufacturing facilities. So in effect what the government was doing was using taxpayer's money to have the taxpayer's jobs shipped out of the USA.
This all started with Nixon's administration after he went and played kissyface with the Chinese, and was encouraged by successive Republican administrations. The blot on the Democrats record is that their administrations that succeeded Nixon's debacle did nothing to reverse its effects.
Then along comes Trump with his promises to bring China to heel and after "imposing" some ineffectual embargos found the Chinese retaliatory embargos hurt us more (especially the farmers) than anything we were doing to them. By the way Trump and his family still have business interests in China and he owes large sums to Chinese banks. And so here we are deep in debt struggling along with a service centric economy.
And if the goods in those containers had been made in the USA there wouldn't be any ships or containers, but you'll have to go back to the Nixon administration and successive Republican administrations to for an answer.
So ships are piling up at Long Beach waiting to get unloaded. The port is jammed full of containers with no place to stack more. The liberal media is blaming it on the trucking industry while the nation's store shelves are becoming bare... Well there's more to the story. Could Gavin Newsom and California's liberal trucking laws be the blame ?
The NEWS says the California port situation is caused by a driver shortage.
Not so fast: It is in part caused by a California Truck Ban which says all trucks must be 2011 or newer and a law called AB 5 which prohibits Owner Operators.
Traditionally the ports have been served by Owner Operators (non union). California has now banned Owner Operators.
Long term, truckers in California are not investing in new trucks because California has a law that makes them illegal in 2035. The requirement is to purchase electric trucks which do not exist.
