Ask the people selling food to raise money for their non-profits. School groups or clubs, civic organizations, and many others. You poor negative nannies can't see the forest for the trees.

Here's the thing with those events... they all claim a certain amount of economic impact, but they can pretty much say whatever they want and there's no way to dispute it.

The hotels benefit, no doubt. The chain restaurants within walking distance of the hotels benefit, too. But that's pretty much it. If they serve food at the event then no one is going to leave to go visit a local restaurant. If they have vendors then no one is going to leave to go shopping at local stores.

In the end, the county pays out a lot of our tax money so that a handful of rich people can get richer. And of course those rich people funnel a little money back to the commissioners that voted to help them... you know, one hand washes the other and all that.

Does MerleFest and FaithFest know that Wilkes County is a dog fighting animal abusing county?

How much money does the county and towns bring in for these events and what is the out of pocket cost we have to absorb to make these events happen. From the public works departments, tying up the Sheriffs office and PD's, EMS, Rescue, the numerous fire departments, etc. Does Wilkes actually benefit from these events or is it just a strain on our local resources and infrastructure for a break even return?
