Dixie Donut is located on 268 W, next to the turn off for Brown's Ford Road. It's still open.

I saw the article about Wilkesboro going after Faw for taxes and the county declining to join them, and I wondered if Faw owns any property in North Wilkesboro, and, if so, why didn't Wilkesboro ask them to join in? Because the towns are still fighting?

So you want Wilkes to be like every other town?

Wasn't there a local doughnut shop I remember hearing about and it was located downtown? Is that still open?

Seriously, if you can't think beyond chains then you'll never be more than a bathroom break on the way to somewhere else.

Slappy, please tell us how much experience you have working in the tourism/hospitality industry since you seem to not accept the knowledge from others with backgrounds in the field

Are you so stupid to think rent is more expensive in Wilkes than in Boone?

In his case Fins, stupid is as far as you need to go

wilkes absolutely does not have an employee base to sustain a thriving tourist/hospitality econmomy...more people should take advantage of the culinary programs at their local colleges

wrong wrong wrong.

plenty of money and employees the issue is the price of rent and location on 421. we are not too different from mount airy to support both a golden corral and lone star if they can not to mention they support more than just those 2

i don't disagree

reminds me of going on a welfare call to the projects. at one house, there was a single mom with a bunch of kids...when the commercials came on, the kids were as slack-jawed and rapt as they were with the show they were watching...when a cereal commercial came on, the kids ran to their cupboard, grab the cereal, and hold it up next to the TV, and shout, "See? See?" And look so happy...same thing with soup and a couple of other items...

It was weird, but it was a very compelling snapshot of the mindless consumerism that grips us...no matter what our socio-economic status...we seem to need validation for what we buy , and conformism

imo all Starbucks are over-rated, anybody can burn a pot of coffee and call it special blend.

chendo

people just think they are in the big time with places like Starbucks, Olive Garden, et. al...

the one in mt airy is underwhelming

Why would anyone want a Starbuck's when there are several independent coffee shops in Wilkes/N. Wilkes?

It takes competent employees to keep them from burning themselves in the hot oil of a doughnut machine.

chendo

not to mention an employee pool deep enough to staff them

It's not JC Faw. The county does not has enough ecomony with cash flow to keep these places making a profit.

Was it the town or the county that started a program to foreclose on dilapidated properties that are behind on taxes? I read about it recently.

I suppose that they don't want to grab Lake Taco because of the aggravation and expense.
