The idea that the meat is always fresher at Lowes is a myth. They cut it and ship from another location just like Food Lion. Most of them use a type of gas to preserve it. IGA on the other hand cuts theirs in house.

I didn't intentionally skip it, I forgot all about it. I think I went inside of a Just Save once, several years ago.
I'm guessing that it's a tier 3 store like Food Lion and IGA, getting the meat and produce from Lowes that didn't sell quite fast enough. But that's really just a guess.

I think that IGA is a 3rd tier store. Whole Foods would be tier 1, Lowes Food would be tier 2, IGA and Food Lion would be tier 3, and Walmart would be tier 4.
Or maybe some great statesman will promise free groceries for all. You mean like SNAP?

Yep. Those poor people need a second tier food store.
Maybe the first class establishments could sell their out of date produce around back to the have nots.
Or maybe some great statesman will promise free groceries for all.

I always go to Lowes Food, it's a higher tier store so the meat and produce are always fresher and taste better.
But I do think that IGA will do well here, there are a lot of lower income neighborhoods nearby that will much prefer shopping there instead of driving to Walmart or Food Lion.
Discount groceries? IGA's prices were ridiculous. I've only ever used the one on 268, but I felt like their prices were comparable to Food Lion. What were you seeing that was ridiculously priced?

I certainly hope this is true,I love IGA and I personally think their prices are great compared to most grocery stores.

How do you figure? Lowe's has over 1K folks in Wilkes.

Lowes Foods and Lowes Home Improvement should both be boycotted and put out of business. Two legacy Wilkes companies who abandoned the county of their birth.

I wish someone would open up the store on 115. It was so convenient for workers heading home down 421 South to stop by and pick up something. I know they were always busy. I would think it would be profitable.

The owners of IGA are talking about buying the old Lowes Food building in Midtown. The deal isn't done yet, but I think that's a good area for discount groceries.
