The formula that is used for Food Stamps is a joke. I don't get a lot, (less than $150) for a family of five. I use coupons to help stretch them from month to month. There are people who need them and don't get enough and the ones that don't need them, get too much. I know of several people who sell theirs and they are getting almost $700.

At one point and time, a single person without kids couldn't get food stamps. The guidelines have changed some. My father applied when he was out of work one time. He was in his mid forties and because he didn't have any dependents, he wasn't eligible.

@ fins, yes they can if they pay rent. A single person can get stamps if they are paying rent. Kids or not.

Actually they can. As long as they pay rent, and go to college full time.

That still wouldn't change the eligibility requirements or cut down on fraud, waste, and abuse.

You know what I think instead of food coupons people should be given food. A week worth of real food at a time. Simple healthy food.

His u/e benefits and/or qualifying expenses may have disqualified him. U/E too much or expenses too low or a combo of the two.

Just wondering. Its seems real sad that these kids who are getting them and they sure are do not know how to shop to make them last. They need groceries at end of month and expect help. I gave some one groceries at the end of a month they had no food and I my self spend money very carefully-I buy reduced food-I go to bread store-cut and use coupons etc etc. I see same person buying groceries with food stamps as I am buying reduced food and using my coupons and thinking man there stamps are not going to get them far if thats how they shop. I think maybe some class's should be given with these stamps.

Anyone that doesn't work can get them. Plus so many people lie. It's bad when you see someone driving a 40k vehicle using food stamps. It happens way too much!

I know several single people with no kids, that receive food stamps. They don't pay rent because they don't have a job.
