Stone mountain is my favorite.....and if you do the loop, it's as strenuous as you want. My cousin and i used to time ourselves. our first timed loop trail hike was about 2 hours. After a couple of weeks, we could do it in 54 minutes.

there are trails at the lake but i'm not familiar with them.

the doughton park trail from the longbottom road entrance leads all the way up to the cabin on the parkway in Roaring Gap....but it is very strenuous once you get past primitive camping.

This warm day has me thinking about spring and summer hiking trips. Can anyone recommend hiking places within an hour drive from Wilkes? Some that have great views are nice. I also love adventurous harder hiking trails.
