Workshop: Involving Youth and Young Adults in Local Governance and Community Leadership

Public Event

Thursday, May. 7, 2015

The Rural Center will hold a workshop on Thursday, May 7 in Elkin to address one of
North Carolina's most pressing rural issues: how to transform communities into places in which youth and young adults can thrive.

Part of the New Generation Initiative, this workshop will explore ways to engage young people in the life of their communities and local governance. Participants will discover the elements of a successful engagement model, hear from young leaders who will offer perspective and advice, and leave with tools and resources that can help build winning strategies at home. The workshop is open to community leaders, young people and others who are passionate about community transformation. The workshop will combine expert presentations, moderated discussions and group activities in a fast-moving format.

The free workshop will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00p.m. and be offered at the Elkin Center of Surry Community College, 1461 N Bridge St, Elkin, N.C.

Registration will be open through May 5th. Please email Misty Herget at [email protected] to register for the workshop.
