The Wilkes County Mental Health/Substance Use Task Force began as a result of a Community assessment in 2009 by the Wilkes Healthy Carolinians. The assessment results showed several community concerns including: �There are delays in linking individuals to inpatient and outpatient psychiatric and detox services� and �People may not know where to go for services and professionals may not know where to refer, therefore many end up in the ER�. The Task Force focuses on reducing long wait times in the Emergency Department and offering alternative community crisis supports for individuals requiring immediate assistance with mental health and substance use needs.
As a way to bring the community together to address these important issues, the Task Force will be holding a Wilkes County Community Resource Forum on Thursday, October 25th, from 6 to 8 p.m. The forum will provide information about ways to improve services or make the system easier to use for citizens, families, and service providers as a whole. This is an opportunity to gather and learn more about mental health, substance use, and intellectual and developmental disability services in Wilkes County. Providers from our area will be speaking including: the Sheriff�s Department, Vaya Health formally known as Smoky Mountain MCO, Wilkes Regional Medical Center, and other service providers. This is a family friendly event promoting recovery and integrated care in Wilkes County.
This forum will be located at the Stone Center. The address is 613 Cherry Street, North Wilkesboro. This event is free to the public and FOOD WILL BE PROVIDED!
