Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP)

Public Event · by redyugobandit

Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014

Start the New Year out right by getting your pet spayed or neutered. This program is to assist low income families in getting their pets fixed at a significantly lower cost than standard vet prices. Getting pets spayed/neutered will help reduce the number of unwanted pets in Wilkes County. Benefits to the pets are less aggression, wandering, male spraying, and a longer, healthier life.

This program is income related, so please bring with you some type of PROOF OF INCOME: Pay Check Stub; Bank Deposit Statement; Last Year Taxes; Social Security Benefit Letter; etc. Anything that will allow us to verify your annual income is $35,000 or less. (If you make over 35K annually see note below.) We do NOT keep anything, just take a quick look. IMPORTANT: If you receive any public assistance just bring your FOOD STAMP or MEDICAID CARD and that will automatically qualify you for the program assistance.

Currently while funds are available, the cost to spay/neuter both DOGS and CATS is $25. Because LAW REQUIRES ALL PETS to have a current rabies vaccination, if your pet is NOT up to date there will be an additional cost of $7 for this vaccination, making the total $32 per pet. No limit to the number of pets you can sign up/pay to have fixed. Please be prepared to pay your total upon sign-up (cash or check only).

After sign up and payment is complete you will receive a VOUCHER that is accepted by ALL LOCAL VETS in Wilkes County: Wilkes Veterinary Hospital, Animal Hospital of Wilkes, and Riverview Animal Hospital. Also accepted by Animal Ark Veterinary Hospital in Elkin. (You can use the voucher at Vets that do not normally participate in the program only if they agree to accept payment in the amount indicated on the voucher.) Just call and make your pet an appointment and be sure to take the voucher with you to the appointment.

NOTE: If you earn over 35K annually, as an incentive to help you get your pet spayed/neutered we will issue you a voucher good for from $15-20 (Male or Female Cats) to $30 (Dogs) OFF the cost of the surgery accepted by all the local vets (kind of like a coupon). No proof of income necessary to receive one of these vouchers.

This program is made possible by donations made to the ALL VOLUNTEER non-profit Humane Society of Wilkes.
