In January Wilkes Community Partnership for Children will begin gathering volunteers to reading in preschools around
Wilkes County for Read Across America on Wednesday, March 2nd. This is a national day to celebrate literacy and the
birthday of beloved author Dr. Seuss. The National Education Associate (NEA) began Read Across America in 1997. The
purpose: �motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful
readers. Research has shown that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in school.� (NEA website).
