Independence Day: It's a Revolution
Public Event
An entertaining schedule of merriment and activities will be held throughout the day for the entire family. This year will feature hands-on history in the historic house. Visitors will get a taste of what life was like in the 18th century. You will be involved in the daily life of the Lenoir family through interactive activities while touring the historic home, things such as carding wool, learning the basics of cooking and social activities. You will also be an active participant in a discussion on Southern Independence while being served free homemade ice cream. Youll hear the speech given by William Lenoir on July 4th 1830 for a celebration of American Independence in the town of Tuckers Barn (present day Lenoir). Children's activities such as old-fashioned games, childrens crafts, making a bees was candle and signing your name to the Declaration of Independence will be ongoing throughout the day. Become an archeologist for the day and find prizes as you dig. Refreshments will be available for purchase in the gift shop and homemade ice cream will be free to all guests touring the house.
