Brushy Mountain Marine Corps League Det. 1187 will be holding a food drive for Wilkes Ministries of Hope on Saturday April 22nd from 9am-3pm at Food Lion in Millers Creek and Hwy 18 North Wilkesboro. This organization is open three days a week, h.o.p.e.'s primary operation is a food bank that over the first 10 years of operation, distributed over 1.4 million pounds of food to 100,000 individuals in 33,000 families.
Food. it's the fuel we all need to live our lives, yet we know that 1 in 6 Northwest North Carolinians struggles with food insecurity (lacks access to sufficient food to live a healthy, active life). The situation is even worse among children: 1 in every four of our kids is going without enough to eat and, increasingly, our seniors are struggling to stretch limited resources to cover rising costs of living. Food is expensive, and many families on tight budgets so we are reaching out to our community partners to help us out with this wonderful event by asking for donations of food. Any non-perishable item that you can donate will be greatly appreciated. Their ongoing food needs are peanut butter, spaghetti sauce and noodles, cereal, canned chicken, crackers, soup, treet/spam, macaroni n cheese, ramen noodles and hygiene items. Thank you
