Mecklenburg County has an additional 0.50% Transit County tax for public transportation in addition to the 2% local sales and use tax rate. Durham and Orange Counties have an additional 0.50% Transit County tax for public transportation in addition to the 2.25% local sales and use tax rate.

From what I've heard only Mecklenburg county is raising taxes .25%.

1/4 of one percent. Really, that is only $0.25 for every $100 you spend. You don't pay it on gas or groceries. Get over it, you will never notice it.

Its thinking from people just like you over the years that have gotten the rate over 7%.

The rental company does not pay taxes on the item when it is purchased but is required by state law to collect taxes on the rental. This has been the same for at least 40 years.

I love sales tax. I think that should be the only tax. Everyone has to pay that tax if they purchase something, not just the working person. Income tax is so unfair.

well while we are on the subject of taxes......Use Goodwill as th example......someone bought the stuff that they sell new...paid sales tax on it....then give it to Goodwill for free....they wash (maybe) hangit up ...sell it to you and charge you sales tax on it again??????why

food in a grocery store or anywhere? should a restaurateur have to pay sales tax on the food he buys to sell to you? just wondering...he's going to charge you for it anyway...

Sales tax always hurts the poorest of people first...most. Sales tax on food is just plain wrong.

And that's why the ones in Raleigh voted to limit the amount of local sales tax to a maximums and it cannot be raised beyond that limit. Now that in return will put more increases on property owner to carry the local bills.

Do away with property tax and increase the sales tax.
