I agree, the gun owners on here are super paranoid and can't wait for an opportunity to shoot someone. Human life, other than their own, has no meaning.

Lol, actually we have strange stuff happen a lot. We live on a dead end road off of a fairly busy main rd.

She said she was alone and needed help. My husband went out to help her, but he also was armed. Turns out she wasn't alone and helpless. She was stoned and up to no good. If he hadn't been visibly armed then things could have turned out differently

I have never had anything happen like that to me....EVER....we need to talk mo's!

some people think that they have the right to shoot trespassers period. and they can't wait for the opportunity to do so.

i don't know what the mindset of the shooter was/is, but i hear people say all the time, "if someone comes on my property in the middle of the night, i will shoot first, and ask questions later."

I agree with the stay inside thing and wait for the police. Too many itchy trigger fingers and fear based reactions.

As I've said previously, I had this poor, pitiful, lil guy show up at my door at 1am, soaking wet, his arm wrapped up in his t-shirt, covered in blood. My first reaction was to jerk the door open and help this poor guy but I had enough sense (don't know why) to call 911. Likely, he had a gun under that t-shirt. I don't think it was what it seemed.

Not to mention that Alzheimer's sufferers can be violent. If we weren't there and didn't see it, then I think it could have been a tougher call then you might think. How was he to know this guy was 72 years old and an Alzheimer's patient? He could have been a 59 year old drug addict. Hind sights always 20/20.
I had a girl knock on my door in the early hours of the morning. She said she was alone and needed help. My husband went out to help her, but he also was armed. Turns out she wasn't alone and helpless. She was stoned and up to no good. If he hadn't been visibly armed then things could have turned out differently.

"Why would a 35 year old armed, former soldier be so afraid of a 72 year old man?"

If he suffered from PTSD, we can't fathom what the soldier has experienced or is still combatting.

One of the Jehovah's people really freaked me out when we lived way out in our cabin. We had a long, private driveway and I was there with just mom, but I still didn't shoot him. Especially when the little girl got out of the van.

According to how these things tend to go, I cold have shot the creepy looking old guy driving up uninvited and unannounced and been totally justified because I was "afraid".

I can see it. Sad, but since the man had tried getting in the home and ignored orders to stop advancing, I can understand it. The smart thing would have been to stay inside, though.

The couple showed up at 2am needing to use a phone.

It's easy to say that now, but at 4am and someone trying to get in your house? IDK, I would hope that I would recognize the situation for what it was, but who knows?

If I reacted like this guy, at least 2 dozen Jehovah's Witness's, a young couple, and a middle age dude would all be dead right now.

Did all those people come trying to get into your house at 4am? Doubtful. I'm not saying that I think its justifiable, I just think its not inconceivable.

Why would a 35 year old armed, former soldier be so afraid of a 72 year old man?

I could see his reaction if the Alzheimer's patient was brandishing a gun, but because the old guy was ringing the bell he was shot.
