Rumors swirled around Boone, the next day the son-in-law showed up at the car dealership claiming ownership, demanding a car, and refused to co-operate or talk with police early on.

Also since the house was searched and the police said nothing seem to be taken even the money bag was laying on the table. Maybe they were looking for contracts or any papers in the house that tied the person he was going into the car buisness with and maybe having an affair with his wife ..Because according to the article they never did find out who it was.

If Ginny knew this was going on with her mom and knew that was why her family was killed. She could have just pulled away from all of her family she had left because she was so hurt and ashamed of what had happened. And she knew the rest of her family would be asking her all kinds of questions that she did not want to answer. That would explain also why she did"nt come around her family she had left. Also i agree that he would have had to had help doing these type of murders. At least one more person anyway. I know she had alot to gain when her parents died, but i can"t see any daughter wanting to see her parents killed and brother like that.

Richard, that may be a valid motive, but I just can't see how one person could keep 3 adults subdued long enough to hog-tie and strangle each one. If they had been shot, I could believe one person did it. Especially when it appears they all arrived home at the same time. I do agree that it must have been a grudge killing. Strangulation is a very 'up close and personal' method of killing. It takes awhile for the victim to die, and they have time to know what is happening and who is killing them, so that makes it so much more cold-blooded and cruel than just shooting them.
As for the lack of water in the floor, every newspaper article that addressed the crime scene stated that the water was left running and was overflowing not only the tub , but outside the bathroom as well. not sure who is mistaken there, and not sure it matters, but I thought it was a glaring inconsistency between the account in the Bullard article and the reports written in 1972.

Now that does make you wonder if it could have been that the wife was being stalked by, or was having an affair that had gone bad with the man that was going into partnership with the husband. It says in the article that the person probaly felt comfortable in the house and was probaly allowed to come in the house by a family member. It would be great if they could find out who that person going into buisness with him was! I just wish they could find out who the killer was!

I am not a resident of Wilkes but a friend of mine from there informed me of this thread and the article and of the article http://www.yesweekly.com/ar...-case.html which I found interesting and why I am awake pondering a 40 year old case at this time of night. so here are a few of my ideas.... From the Article.

1. The father had the 'Jimmy' gassed up so he could get his family home from the auto dealership that evening.

2. the family arrived home around 9:00pm

3. The father had gone upstairs and left his Coat there

4. the family was either eating or had eaten.

5. the Son in law recieved a phone call from Mother in law (Maybe) at 10:15 or so.

6. the "Jimmy" was Crashed (Or abandoned) somewhere around 10:30.

7. The Son in law and PI arrived somewhat later to discover bodies.

The interesting thing in the Article was that the ties to the Son and Father were both checked and found to be negative in searching for motive, but the mother was not mentioned. so here is my scenario.

Mother had an ilicit affair, or a person interested in her that was unstable. so Jilted Lover or Stalker comes into play here. said person is in house before family arrives home. Incapacitates the father, Incapacitates the Son. Mother attempts phone call, is struck with handset (Hence bloody nose) and phone is ripped from wall.

If person was Military or Ex military probably has skill set to render males unconcious and tie the bonds reported in article, subdue female and make her watch as he ties and drownds her son and husband before her eyes (As pnishment for rejecting/jilting him) before strangling her (Note SHE was not drowned) and then she is placed in the tub. The lack of water on floor noted in article would indicate that two concious males put up no struggle so therefore I surmise both were ubconcious but alive (Since they breathed in water to drown)

Off the wall I am sure but I found it a glaring ommission that nothing was mentioned of the Mother being the 'motive' in the killings.

This could indicate a Single, well trained killer rather than the Son in law and Daughter theories I have read through here.

Just a thought for your perusal.

I so agree and hope the people working on this case again are able to bring some closure to all involved.

Someone posted an article on the family of Bennie Staley being upset that police wanted to dig up his remains. Why would a family with documented proof that this young man was robbing and stealing from innocent people have issues with not helping the authorities? Where was his wife on the night of this tragedy? What does she know? She was living with him and must have been benefiting from the stolen money. Wonder if she was ever questioned. The article stated he was a manager at Hardee's. Was there not insurance money? Did she even make an effort to repay any of the victims from his known crimes? Does anyone know this person?

i would definitely be interested in any info on this. i would love to know that these killers are caught and brought to justice no matter who ever it is. its is untelling how many others have been killed by this bunch of killers. i still believe this was over drugs and i am not saying bryce and virginia was doing anything with drugs. i think someone was scared of being told on and it would lead to many more being caught .

Mr. Bullard, definitely link us to your follow-up article, please. I don't believe in ghosts, but you are a great writer and l am sure it will be a fascinating read. I also hope you will seriously consider putting all your info together in a book. Burned out fires can sometimes be rekindled by poking around in the ashes a bit.

Wow, G2, why the irritation? Just don't read this thread if it annoys you so much. Or did we hit a nerve? Does that G stand for Ginny?

Country Guy that would tell you right there she was involved in the killings.Because if she was"nt it would have made her pull closer to the family she had left. He did"nt want anyone to be able to talk to her because he was afraid she might slip up and say something she should"nt. She would not have just left the family with no contact unless she was ashamed of what she had done and could"nt face them. She has had to just put it out of her mind now to be able to live with herself, I bet she has been one miserable person!

Very interesting, countryguy. G2, sorry this is so boring for you. Perhaps you should read a post that addresses subjects you are more familiar with, such as zits, farts, and boogers. (sorry for lowering myself but I just can't resist ignorant trolls)

no she is not in contact with much of her family. i will tell you this. when the viewing was held troy would not let anyone talk to ginny or come around her. he had her so doped up she probably didn't know where she was or what she was doing. she never spoke to anyone that i know of. she was named after her garndmother. i think she has come to see one relative by marriage once and thats it as far as i know. all of her aunts on her mothers side have passed away but one and she is in a nursing home . ofcourse i dough if many care if they ever see her again to be honest. esepecially the durhams .

Well, there ya go Tim Bullard. You got us all stirred up with this posting, so you should get busy writing a book now. You are obviously an excellent writer and it's intriguing subject matter, so you would have a best seller for sure. I will pre-order my copy right here and now. deal?

The article at the beginning of this thread does a good job of describing the crime, but it is very vague as far as giving very much detail about the investigation that followed. I would be very interested in a follow-up story. If anybody can find anything else, don't hesitate to share on here.

Yeh, l think that's what makes this unsolved murder so unsettling- the fact that the daughter was considered a suspect. it is really hard to comprehend that kind of evil. Was she messed up on drugs at the time?
