We've already had to start up the wood stove. We gotta be really careful that the kids don't get sick cause it happens pretty easily, especially Nevaeh.

We use a wood fire place insert and sun heat infrared heater. So far have not had to fire either up. Normally we make it to the last of Oct before having to build a fire. It is kind of chilly here now...close to 40 degrees outside.

I will not turn the heat on until it gets to about 60 degrees in here. The only way I will is if we have visitors and then I would so they wouldn't be uncomfortable. I am trying to get the power bill down as low as I can at least for a couple of months.

Wood insert is going as I type. Will be 98% of the heat for the winter.

We have had nights where its been really cold and I refuse to turn the heat on. The air in the house isn't freezing and we sleep under lots of blankets. I put 100 gallons in the tank the other day, not knowing how much was in there before and we are hopefully moving shortly to a place that INCLUDES heat (yay), so I don't want to fill the tank. Until we can see our breath, the heat stays off.. haha

Investing in new storm windows has saved us in the long run.

have not had to turn up the heat....not yet anyway...if your house needs insulating its cheaper to do it than pay the soon to be higher bill with the raise in your power rates...

I've been going back and forth between heating and air conditioning for several weeks now. Right now, the heat is on!

I like it COLD. I like having to stay under the covers at night. However, I have small children and I have to keep them warm. Before having kids, I would never have my heat on this early.

the AC doesn't kick on here until the temp reaches 70+; our wood stove is up-&-running now, &, & has been since the first time the lows reached the forties.

Last year I only used the heat on the coldest of nights and rarely if any in during the days. I dressed a little heavy if I stayed home and stayed pretty comfortable. On the coldest nights, I ran it only to keep the pipes safe but like people have said it's best to make sure things are ok. I always check the furnace out in August and replace everything then just in case.
