What's cheaper to heat with?

I have used a waste oil furnace to heat a repair shop, first I had to fix it. These work on a principal of heating the used oil and mixing it with compressed air much like a paint sprayer.

Some people use a drip device and dribble used motor oil on the fire in their wood stove to intensify the BTU value of their wood stove. These are effective in a commercial setting, but not in your home.

These methods are a solution to waste oil from vehicle service, otherwise you have to pay to have it hauled off.

Eden Pure heaters work pretty well if you read the directions and keep the filters clean. They are not space heaters or meant to be used to heat a home. They work along with a regular heat source, to maintain a constant heat. They keep your furnace from working so much if used correctly. Most people buy them thinking the heaters can heat the whole house. Run them constantly, never save a penny and actually cost them more. That said it's another electric heater if mis-used. Really almost any electric heater can be used like the Eden Pures. What makes the Eden different is the type of heating elements they use. It really depends how the house and the person using them!

Sunflower has a point. That black crap on the ceiling is also in your lungs.

Can you have a water stove that burns used motor oil?? Now that would be cheap heat!!

There is a health risk of burning wood and it does not only affect your family but everyone in the community, that is the reason I use a heating source certified as EPA compliant.

I also use an additive to help the oil burn clean and help to promote heat transfer. Air Quality is important as many of do not have health insurance.

My sons ENT doctor has one of the outside wood heating system that's hooked to his water. It costed him around $10000. I would love to have one, but that's a bit steep for me.

mh, my neighbor has one of the wood-fired hot water stoves and their house stays nice and toasty, plus they never run out of hot water either.

I have scene an outside wood burning water stove with the line going inside to a coil in a forced air system. That was pretty cool. It also heated the hot water.

We have a heat pump, but we use wood. Lots of work, but talk about warm. We cut our own and with plenty of wood around the house and around family members house, we don't have to pay for it. Our power bill last December was $432.00. This year it's $121.00.

Heat Pump. My parents heat with oil, and they spent over $700 last winter for oil. When you add in their power bills for Dec-Feb their total was nearly $900.00. My power bills last year were $161 in Dec., $230 in Jan, and $192 in Feb for a total of $583. I keep my house nice and warm, so a heat pump is in my opinion the best option.

Solar dishes works really well! Now if I could figure out how to stop burning holes through the room I would be in business!

Least expensive heat is wood if you can cut your on and have an unlimited supply. You also need a controlled draft stove to keep the heat in the house. If you have to buy wood, any of the other options is better.

As far as the other three go, they all three depend on electricity. So, if the power is out so is the heat.

Each of the three oil, gas and electricity are tied to market demand. Oil and gas actually have heat coming out. A heat pump sometimes does not make much hot air. Also, if the strip heaters in a heat pump activate the power bill will get astronomical in a hurry.

Good luck.

the cheapest way to heat is with a high effeciantcy heat pump with an oil back up, it will keep the electric bill down while saving the amount of fuel used

I like my heat pump so far. I could probably use a little more insulation overhead.

A heating and air guy told me a lot of oil heat goes up the chimney.

I have a high efficiency monitor, its a laser model and it is not too expensive compared to my neighbor's electric bill. I also live in a mobile home in the Meatcamp / Todd area where it is cold and the wind is terrible.

Last winter I went through 200 gallons of kerosene. I remember the horrific threads when people got their electric bill. This year I started with 150 gallons and I will see how long it lasts, it is plenty for a mild winter like we had the past several years.
