I liked PB Scotts on the mountain, but 1 more in Wilkes was Brushy Mountain Service Station before you start up the mountain going towards Taylorsville. Also Royals Package store on 16 north

There were a lot of un-named drink houses in the county that sold sugarhead by the snuff glass. Usually a snuff glass half full was fifty cents. A dollar would fill it to the rim.

Bolster, Lithia Springs was a health resort facility. The spring supposedly had minerals with healing powers. Folks would book extended stays to drink and bathe in the spring water. I have photographs of the hotel before it burned.

Leaving Wilkes, the closest place to ASTC where you could legally drink was the Antlers in Blowing Rock.

Remembered it was SAMS in RR, yet who could forget the "GREENHORN"? Only problem there was i believe every SHP in state was dispatched to that area every weekend. After 1 o'clock or so the whole NE side of county was a sea of blinking blue lights.

Crypt (view profile) Posted 5:01 pm, 04/20/2017 Cathty's Place, Google's I've been to every one. The old bars back in the 60's were the best. The rougher they were the better I liked them. I didn't forget Googles.

I have a friend who lives on the Brushy mountains. He said there was a fancy place called Lithia Springs in the early part of last century - a hotel and bar.

Both sides of US 421 North half way up the mountain before you get to Watauga county.
Place on the north side had a collection of old cars.
P.S. US 421 is not an interstate.

I was never a fan of the Goodwill burgers. They had a BBQ sandwich with slaw that was much better, to me.
