You're so right M M.. When they get All speeders off roadways they'll be plenty of open road for ones that abide by speed limits posted.. Yet, will it be a cost & fine/DL taken or how many lives lost?? Secondly, which do you think the State/States want most, the $$$$$ or loss of life??..

Would yall want someone to talk about you like this after your death? None of you are perfect, neither are you any better than him by talking about him like you do. You don't even know the whole story or you wouldn't make the comments that you have.

Is giving out a speeding ticket worth someone's life?

YES! he was putting innocent people's lives at risk. If patrol did not stop pple and give tickets, there would be no need to have speed limits.

He made a choice and it cost him his life. The patrol was doing what they are paid to do, get speeders off the highway.

Saw the NC in the link. Still, it’s not a national policy. It’s a recommendation.

The one I linked said "National Institute for Justice."

Good night, all

That’s NCHP. It’s not a guide for “most agencies across the nation”. Cist is talking out of his ***

That mostly reiterates the national one that I linked... page 5 says that the cop should consider whether it's more dangerous to pursue, and should break off pursuit if the one being pursued isn't suspected of a violent crime and can be identified and apprehended later.

I would say that this may be why there's not a lot of information given about this chase. If the policy was for them to not pursue, but they did anyway, then the cops chasing could possibly be held accountable.

And you know what’s really dangerous? Running from the cops.

Don’t say is common practice since you actually have no idea if it is or not. As you said, you pulled it out of your ***.

They tried to PUT a bike? Wow...there only one way that will end...badly

Cisgender

It’s just common practice but yes I did pull that stat out my a***. Call North Wilkesboro Police Department and ask what their protocol is for chasing a motorcycle. Most agencies wouldn’t do what these troopers did. Just so dangerous to chase over a traffic violation. I’m not sure how you guys don’t understand this.

Most agencies across the nation? Got a link to back up that claim? Or did you just pull it out of your ***?

Cisgender

It’s my understanding that it’s a department to department decision as far as engaging in a high speed chase with a motorcycle. Most agencies across the nation would attempt to acquire the plate and lightly engage in trying to apprehend the suspect. N.C. highway patrol has their own protocol and a decision is usually made by the captian to continue pursuit or not. With a passenger they could not have chased and if he was bobbing in and out of traffic it is against protocol to chase. The articles on the news have been very vague about how he crashed. All I want to know is if a trooper car made contact with him and forced him to crash. If so I think that is outrageous regardless if the motorcyclist broke the law or not. I have a hard time understanding how you could feel any other way. And I’m not wrong about that Joseph you would be a bish in person you wouldn’t say anything like that.

I couldn't find the actual laws, but two articles on the chase policy that I think are relevant to this topic:

Records show the so-called PIT maneuver, or pursuit intervention technique, was performed at 80 mph, well above the Highway Patrol’s policy limiting it to chases at 55 mph or under.

And:

Another change, troopers can't chase motorcycles if there's a passenger or the bike is weaving in-and-out of traffic at high speeds.
