All true Hope75, guess all those other aisles are for show, they can't afford (Ha) to hire enough workers to keep the aisles open, or be available when needed. Check writers seem to forget that they'll have to pay, and start digging around to find their check book. I used to always have my check book filled out, in my hand and waiting for the total.

I have never, ever seen our Walmart have every line open. However, even that wouldn't prevent me from being stuck behind a price matching check writers, using expired coupons. Those people aren't carrying signs telling others not to get behind them. It doesn't matter how many lines are open, I ALWAYS get behind that person. Never fails.

Another Wal Mart bashing thread. I remember the first Wal Mart that I had ever seen , in Kentucky, and thinking wow all this under one roof ! Didn't know at the time, that many of the stores here would leave for various reasons, and blame Wal Mart.

Stores in other towns, HIckory, Winston Salem, Greensboro, Statesville , to name a few seem to survive.

The time will come when Walmart lets customers order their groceries online. Customers will pick up one or two large pre-packed boxes. The cashier will only have to scan the box. No more bags and self checkouts will be more secure and efficient. This will likely happen before 2020.

It's ALL a nightmare for everyone behind you in line.
They need a specific line for price matchers, couponers, check writers, WIC users, and anyone else who requires extra time to pay for their stuff.

Corporate may be ending the "have every lane open for customers" on the weekends near the holidays next year. Customers are complaining in Elkin and Wilkesboro that they do not want to walk to registers further away from where they parked. So they just wait in long lines and complain when management suggest they go to a open lane. Management doesn't know what to do when customers don't want to walk a little further to empty lanes. Cashiers in the middle are paid to stand and watch.

Only hard copies they let the older generations get by with is the weekly IGA or Food-lion ad. They probably believe the older generations would be more prone to be scammed by online websites. Most are still afraid to use debit/credit cards and only pay with hard copy personal checks at Walmart. They also still fill out the blank checks out every time when its printed automatically for them.

FYI, I don't own a smart phone and I am an older customer (54). That does not affect my ability to search the internet for the best price and print out what I find. Don't lump all us "old fogies" in the same basket.

Older customers with hard copies usually get denied. They wouldn't accept print outs due to photo-shop. It had to be current and in stock. Smart phones are current with up-to-date real time information for management to check quickly.

maybe the manager was just having a bad day . or maybe the manager just was to lazy and didnt want to take the time to look up the walmart website.

It's not the managers doing a bad job, they have had to review the policy a lot in the past two weeks.

It's called a publicity stunt right before the holidays. Many shoppers in Wilkes price matched items for 1penny through Amazon. Older customers, the majority in Wilkes, were in shock when they had to wait in line behind teens getting things for a penny. After coupons, cashiers owed them money and the younger customers got everything for free.

Older generations didn't even know what Amazon was and most were not eligible since they didn't have a smartphone to price match an online retailer.

It was genius. Walmart scored big time and had everyone talking. As a result, the policy has changed several times recently regarding 3 party retailers and hidden shipping fees.
