The continued sanctions on Cuba hurt the people.
To lower restrictions on the Island will allow the people to experience a little capitalism. And that's the fastest way to get rid of Communist Dictators (look at the USSR).
Keeping up the same sanctions will have the same results (NOTHING).
Trying something new will at least give a shot as a different outcome. Those who oppose this only do so because Obama is trying it. Nixon went to China and was claimed a hero by the GOP.
Hypocrites.

Sandals Resorts set to make giant campaign contributions to the democrats...follow the money.
Glaringly absent is any dialogue requiring Castro regime to do anything different than they have been.

Ask all the exiled Cubans in Florida what they think about Castro. I can't believe Obama would want to lose all those votes.

Will all the homes and farm lands be returned to the citizens that were stolen by the Castro government?

Just opened up the waterways for more Cuban illegals/immigrants. Got to get the people lined up for the 2016 elections.

Good that he has done this. Needed to be done the last 20 years.
As soon as they start tourist visas I am going for a nice vacation there. No internet, no cell phones, no mail. Peace and quiet.

Feel Burger sincerely sees the collapse of the Soviet Union as a huge change. And a major reason to try and build a better relationship with a close neighbor.

Southbound2012 (view profile) | Just do not see how this fixes anything either way you go. We been dealing with China for years they are still a Communist country where people are still oppressed and basic human rights violated. We have dealt hard with Cuba for years and they are still a Communist country where the people are denied basic human rights. So what really needs to be done. To be honest I don't know. But this way I can envision more money pumped into a corrupt Government (Cuba).

Well after 5 decades (50 years) of an embargo of Cuba nothing has changed. To keep repeating that history and expecting a different outcome is insane. This deal was brokered by the Pope which brings a lot of goodwill from both Cuba and the US. Trying something different is at least a shot at getting a nice new vacation spot for us and some sudo-capitalism for them.

While this is one I agree with. I think this should have went thru congress. With that being said why anyone would want an enemy so close to home is beyond me. This needed to happen for national security at the very least.

This is definitely going to piss off a very important voting block in a very important swing state.
It's a ballsy move politically but a very "No duh" move economically

Yes, I received an email abt this very subject a few seconds ago, courtesy of WXII; if it helps topple Castro & his Commie thugs, then, obviously, this'll be a great thing.
