Trump decries immigrants from '****hole countries' coming to US

I wouldn't use that term. But to put it in perspective. 8 years after the earthquake, Port-au-Prince finally has 4 traffic lights.

My point is most people are upset about this because its Trump. Not because they have any real knowledge about the situation. And for people to state this is a racist statement by Trump shows their very narrow mind of the world.

In Geneva, meanwhile, a United Nations representative also called Mr. Trump's wording blatantly racist.

"There is no other word one can use but 'racist'... This isn't just a story about vulgar language, it's about opening the door to humanity's worst side, about validating and encouraging racism and xenophobia," United Nations human rights spokesman Rupert Colville said, according to Reuters. "You cannot dismiss entire countries and continents as 'sh*tholes', whose entire populations, who are not white, are therefore not welcome."

Across the African continent, media outlets and the young, increasingly connected population were less coy than the government of South Sudan.

"Casual Friday at the White House is soon to include hoods and tiki torches at this rate," South African media outlet Daily Maverick wrote.

"Good morning from the greatest most beautiful 'sh*thole country' in the world!!!" South African Broadcasting Corporation anchor Leanne Manas tweeted.

"As someone from South Sh*thole, Trevor is deeply offended by the president's remarks," The Daily Show tweeted of its South African-born host, Trevor Noah.

In Kenya, East Africa's economic hub, political activist Boniface Mwangi pleaded: "Please don't confuse the #sh*thole leaders we Africans elect with our beautiful continent."

In Haiti, one of the nations disparaged by name by Mr. Trump, the response was in turn more direct. U.S. charge d'affairs Robin Diallo was summoned to explain Mr. Trump's comments to Haitian President Jovenel Moïse. The meeting will see Haiti issue the U.S. with a formal diplomatic complaint called a demarche.

CBS News correspondent Margaret Brennan says Diallo will listen to President Moïse's concerns and reiterate America's commitment to people of Haiti. Brennan notes that it is more typical for this type of conversation with a summoned ambassador to happen at the foreign ministerial level, so the fact that Diallo was summoned to meet the president may convey how serious the Haitian government takes the issue.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., a longtime advocate for immigrants' rights, called the president a bigot on "All In.

"

"This is ignorance to speak in such vile, racist terms," Gutierrez said. "We have in the White House someone who could lead the Ku Klux Klan in the United States of America."

Trump had already angered advocates for Haitian and El Salvadoran immigrants in recent weeks by announcing that the U.S. would withdraw temporary protections that allow hundreds of thousands of them to live in the country legally.

The African Union continental body told The Associated Press it was "frankly alarmed" by Mr. Trump's comments.

"Given the historical reality of how many Africans arrived in the United States as slaves, this statement flies in the face of all accepted behavior and practice," AU spokeswoman Ebba Kalondo said.

"This is particularly surprising as the United States of America remains a global example of how migration gave birth to a nation built on strong values of diversity and opportunity."

Oh, I had to look again. I thought the thread title read "counties", probably based upon traveling the mainly southern USA for a few years, away from the touristy and newly developed urban/suburban areas. Then I finally figured the US in the thread title was not "us"locally, as a county, but the USA. Then I thought maybe Trump meant people moving around within the USA. I'm old and easily confused. If the social safety net collapses, we're in big trouble.

If you stick with the travel brochures, keep to the main tourist attractions/gentrified small towns, and drink enough, it's all rose colored glasses out there.

I suspect the leftist hero leader of North Korea calls the US a ****hole everyday. Doesn't bother me at all considering the source.

Yet if some other country leader called the USA a ****hole you would lose your ever loving mind.

Fearing defeat, the liberal/left/losers always play the race card.

It's all they got.

How is this racist? There are many whites living in Haiti and Africa. Only a racist would think this reported comment by Trump to be racist.

Just goes to show that the left can't argue with Trump's successes in this country, they can only attack his character.

How does one learn to hate people over the color of their skin ? I mean it's what, 1/64th of an inch deep ? Would'nt ya rather tend to judge over the "color" of their heart ?
