This morning on 268 there was a huge, old trash truck filled to the brim with garbage. It was uncovered.

I figured this would get some comments.

I've been complaining about this for months. The County Commissioners won't do a **** thing about it.

All very true. Our commissioners would like for us to believe that this is nearly impossible to regulate. I do not think this is the case at all. Pay a couple of off-duty officers to follow a few trash trucks and issue appropriate citations if warranted. Everyone else gets the message with very little cost to the county budget. Or they could actually reduce the budget by getting rid of the County Environmental Officer who apparently has no authority at all. jmo.

I went across Boomer Road Monday and a crew was picking up trash. Very clean and just behind where they had picked up and bagged the trash I saw where someone had freshly tossed a juice bottle in the middle of the road. Talk about sorry.

This was an agenda item at a recent county commissioners meeting. As usual nothing was done other than postpone action

ok...so here is a plan. i can call dmv enforcement and voice a complaint and if each one of you who would like to see less trash will call and make a complaint, it may encourage action by authorities who can have the largest economical impact on violators. unsecured load tickets are not cheap.

Wilkes County has become very comfortable with being a roadside trash dump. We have very little (or no) enforcement of littering laws in our county. Maybe instead of inmates picking it up, the county commissioners could get off their butts and do it themselves if they are unwilling to empower someone to enforce the law.

until it becomes equitable to train the trash truck crews and insure the trash is secure in the truck, it will not improve and most likely get worse.

probably complain to dmv enforcement so they could police area and write up trashtrucks for unsecured loads.

Because if they are inmates, it is very unlikely they threw it out. Why should they pick it up?

Evidently they have stopped the program of inmates picking up trash....wonder why.
