Tom Morris for County Commissioner

Gambill used to be a deputy. Surely he could build a working relationship with the Sherriff's department to think of new ways to fight crime.

But honestly crime, poverty, and unemployment are all related. Improve the employment rate with adequate jobs it helps crime and poverty. Not giving tax breaks for Darden to bring in poverty style jobs. And the only ones making a living wage at Olive Garden moved here with the company.

I'm actually intended for it to be a question for Mr. Morris. I don't know anything about Gambill at all, but I want to know why Morris thinks he's better for the job than, specifically, Gambill.

So you are saying he's ineffective or lazy. Maybe he should try something new.

And really it's just his turn for reelection. People might not vote against him but for something new.

If that's true, Caj, then is it fair to blame David Gambill, when he's not directly in charge of any of those issues?

If the poverty rate and employment rate are getting worse, we have to blame the EDC and Chamber of Commerce. If the crime rate is getting worse, we have to blame the Sheriff (or maybe the towns' police chiefs). If Gambill isn't directly responsible, why should he be replaced with Morris?

I think that Morris's whole argument has been about transparency. He wanted minutes in the work sessions, and now he's (falsely?) claiming that the commissioners gave themselves a pay raise without a public vote. My question for him is, did Gambill directly influence either of those decisions?

I don't think so, I think that both issues fall on the county manager. And if they're not Gambill's fault, then why should he be the one being replaced?

I think all three categories you mentioned Antithesis are getting worse. At best stagnant.

Gambill is nice. But not that bright.

The video keeps talking about a salary increase for the commissioners that was never announced in the commissioner's meetings, but that's not true. From the chart in his video, he shows that there wasn't a salary increase, there was an increase in the travel allowance, from $200 a month to $400 a month.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's just the maximum allowance, not an automatic check, right? So with the increased gas prices, they can now get reimbursed for up to $400 worth of travel.

I think that would have come from the county manager, not the commissioners. So where Mr. Morris is implying that it was all a shady back alley deal, it's not even something that would have come across their desk.

Unfortunately, I'm not seeing much improvement in Wilkes County. When things are not improving it is a pretty good indicator that the quality of decisions being made is not very good and a change is needed. The quality of our life is a reflection of the quality of our choices. Wouldn't you agree?

No, not really, because you're not saying what you consider to be an improvement. Are you talking about the poverty rate, employment rate, crime rate, or what? There are different boards that influence just about any major issue, and the commissioners really just make appointments and determine funding for those boards.

Regardless, right now you're talking about replacing David Gambill with either Tom Morris or Gregory Minton. Are you saying that David Gambill is a driving force in the lack of improvement? Or, as one vote out of 5, is he just getting all of the blame? For all you know, he could be the one guy on their pushing for everything you want, but he's getting overruled.

Mark it down, it doesn't help that he is a atheist but it really doesn't make a difference. He didn't participate in the election primary process, he straddles the fence on the party lines, he is wasting his time and money. He will not win an election in Wilkes County.

He could place his hand and say his oath on the United States Constitution. That ought to be good enough for anybody.

It is not required, but tradition in Wilkes County, that all elected officials take their oath of office by placing their hand on a bible while reciting the oath found in section 6, article 7 of the North Carolina Constitution, which concludes with the words "so help me God". Just curious how an atheist could possibly be sworn in?

We need to flush all the republitards to get Wilkes out of the 1800s and into the 21st century

Funny how things change...what used to be "common sense" is now "ultra liberal." Teddy Roosevelt, a Republican, started the national park system. He also went after the big corporations and made them treat their workers better...so he would be an Ultra Liberal today. Ultra Liberal today usually means that people care more about the common well being or social welfare (gasp) of everyone and not just the wealthy...kind of like Jesus did, you know. I'd rather have someone who is "Ultra Liberal" than has "stuck in the mud" ideologies based on principles espoused by the FOX News media.

Mr. Morris is an ultra-liberal democrat running as an independent because he thinks it will be easier to be elected. Trying to work the system to his advantage is symptomatic of his political philosophy and a troubling trait.
