Using Longhorns or Outback to describe a good steak is an oxymoron.

Stressed, this whole thread has been about Dodge City opening a second location in the old Jubilee Junction

Even if a Wilkes Countian attended the culinary school at WCC, they would have to leave Wilkes to find somewhere to use their education. The places in Wilkes just require one to have the ability to drop a fryer.

I think, part of the enjoyment of many things we do, is the journey. That may set a dramatic tone of what I'm trying to say, but the reason many of us like to distance ourselves from the local surroundings. It's refreshing, in other words, just seeing different things, encountering new people...
There are many interesting restaurants on this list.

I think it's fun to make it a destination stop. Wilkes could provide the same.
Chef and the Farmer is on my list...

I like Dodge City. Hope they do well in Wilkes also. One thing I've noticed though is that in Elkin and Jonesville the residents sincerely hope the best for a local business and lots of times we frequent it because we love the owners and wish them well. Hope that's the case in Wilkes, but based on what I've read on here....

Clean it up (view profile) Posted 8:49 pm, 04/06/2015 I hate to say it but it will never make it that far up 421.
I will have to disagree. The Dodge City in Elkin is a little ways from the "hub" of Elkin. By "hub" I mean WalMart and the immediate surrounding vicinity. They've done very well there. The old Slickhorns isn't a ridiculous distance from the hub of Wilkesboro. If you have good enough service and food, the people will flock.

I do. Anytime I'm researchin' and my numbers come up different I ask why. And no good restaurant will last in Wilkes. For whatever reason, be it customers or employees, they eff it up every time.

i think the failure rate for ALL BUSINESSES is around 80% in the first 5 years...not the first year

That was actually a failure/buyout rate. It was 25% in the first year. Now the failure/closure rate for entrepreneurs/small business is 80-85% within the first year. Maybe that's what dude was referring to.

that is more accurate...but it's closure rate, not failure rate...some restaurants get sold.

My studies show that failure rate is around 60% with-in the first 3 years.

red...where do you get the statistic of 75% failure rate in the first year?
do you realize that means 7 to 8 out of every ten restaurants won't make it past the first year?
