I'm with smalltownman.... The Peddler in Boone is awesome. We used to eat there about once a month. Great steaks, salad bar and some of the best homemade french onion soup I've ever eaten.

Restaurant business is tough to be successful at. Approx. 75% of new restaurants fold within the first year. Best way to help ensure success is to have a draw or gimmick. Most popular steakhouse I've ever been to not counting high end like Ruth's Chris, which as pointed out would never fly in Wilkes, called "Pinnacle Peak" although name not important. Their gimmick is that if you wear a tie when you come in the door they cut it off. Since they've been in business for many years the walls are covered with thousands of ties that were cut off customers, and people come from miles around and wear a tie on purpose just to have it cut off and put on the wall. Simple menu with just Cowboy Steak (Porterhouse) and Cowgirl Steak (T-Bone) keeps costs down and makes big money.

Steakhouse would be nice but a good Seafood Restaurant would be even better

Sullivan's is a great restaurant, it would never play in Wilkes, not enough of the higher socioeconomic type folks to patronize a upper tier restaurant.

$42 for a ribeye? No, that would never fly in Wilkes.

Gowilkes, I too confirmed before I posted. Well worth the drive to elkin, so driving up 421 won't be a problem for me!

Thanks Slade. I remember the location but wasn't sure of the name.

Dodge City at Slickhorns will be excellent! I am concerned about the location, but if they can draw from Boone and Jefferson, as well as Wilkes, it will work. Sometimes I wonder if the goodwill burger crowd will ever be happy. It is amazing how even the goodwill burger lovers can't even keep a place open that sells them. If the gowilkes philosophers ever grow up and get some brains, maybe Wilkes County could come into the 21st Century. That crowd is a good reason why we are in such sad shape.

Which was at the West Park shopping center back in the day, Bonanza Steakhouse, or Ponderosa

It was Bonanza. Ponderosa was in Millers Creek.

I think we have enough restaurants, but I would like to see a REAL seafood restaurant open.

Dodge city is coming to Wilkes. Going in the old Slickhorns building.

FYI, I went to Dodge City yesterday and personally confirmed this! They're one of my favorite local steakhouses, too, so this makes me happy

They're going to have to do some renovation, and plan to open in the Fall. The plan is to have a small bar on the right, and main dining on the left, so the two will be separated.

I have a hard time justifying the cost of a good restaurant when I can do the same meal at home. But, sometimes you just want to be waited on!

There again, Wilkes Countians would choke when they saw the prices at either establishment.

chendo, the Ruth's Chris in Raleigh is hands-down the best in NC. But, The Peddler in Boone has always been a personal favorite.

Ruths Chris Ed so expensive last time I was there, people in Wilkes would poop a brick if they saw those prices. And all the sides were a la carte, if you ordered a steak, a steak was all you got!
