You must check out Meadowlark Landing. As I stated, you have a separate restaurant area to the right. It wouldn't have to interfere with the central tavern, area, which is in the middle of the building. (There is a nice sitting area with a stone fireplace as you enter). However, you could serve your menu in the tavern area and deliver through a window, waitress, etc. That way, people who simply wanted a restaurant (without tavern atmosphere) would have their separate space and patrons in the tavern could order your food in there too.The music hall on the other end could remain separated from the tavern, as it currently is, or a wall could be torn down to make this space even larger. I would play good Americana music in the middle section and then charge a small fee for those wanting to attend shows. That way, you wouldn't turn away those folks who do not want to hear a band or pay a cover charge (they'd still buy your wine and eat your food). The owner built the stage area (Americana Music Hall) less than a year before it closed, so it is new .Also, the location (421 N ,really west of town) has potential because there is nothing out that way. You could cater to Millers Creek residents, as well as those living further west in the mountain communities. This is where a lot of the money is. You would also capture tourists traveling to Boone and Blowing Rock. The other wonderful location is the old Coffee Tavern building. The same theme would be great there. It has multiple levels and is on the river.I've talked to a realtor for the Coffee Tavern (nearly a year ago) and an employee at Meadowlark right before they closed in January. They are both asking right at $1,000,000. However, I would think you could get one of them for much less in today's market.Good Luck. We need culture!...We need fun!

to be honest people want to eat a place that is clean and relatively new - that is when you get the most business - it seems nothing lasts long around here not even the fast food - I dont think that converting the old quincys is going to drive up business - look at how many times it has opened with something then shut down - I would agree with the old coffee tavern or meadowlark landing building. They are suitable for a few renovations and opening a quality driven business.

I love this site! So much feed back. Unfortunately I am not that good at the password thing so I had to re-do it. I saw a beautiful place own in the valley across from the general HP. It looks empty. Any info on that? I will check out the Medowlark Landing. I hope it is in the book. I am thinking Key West inspired seafood and quality grilled (open flame) steaks. I do love darts and pool though. We might make it a fun place with a competitive atmosphere on Fridays- what do you think? And a competent and wait staff is a must!

I would like to see a real steak house. Something along the lines of The Peddler in Boone. A wide selection of quality steaks and chops with an above average salad bar. A competent wait-staff would be the perk to put it over the top for me. Wilkes does not need another restaurant serving pintos, cornbread, chicken wings or country-fried anything.

Fusion would be great. Anything different would be welcome. Meadowlark Landing is now vacant. It has the most potential of anywhere I've seen. Restaurant space on one end. Small music venue on the other end (and outdoor stage beside the restauant. There is also a big space in between. I'd like to see a nice, casually upscale (not pretentious or expensive, just a nice, relaxing non-redneck place) tavern atmosphere that serves microbrew and wine, has a few pool tables, dart boards, etc. Also, an in house coffee shop for those times you want a fun place to go to but not drink alcohol. It woudn't be a "pool hall" where crack is distributed. It wouldn't be a bar, per se, where all the drunks hang out. Just a nice, laid back place where middle-aged people can meet their friends, socialize, and have something to do. PLEASE, someone step up to the plate and give us somewhere to go and something to do.

Taragon please if you do open a restaurant, serve up some good New Orleans dishes. That would be great.

I do know there aren't enough places that have good food and actually have delivery offerred. Most of the places that do deliver have just pizza or stuff like that. We need more of a selection of places that deliver.

I so think that you are right. Applewood Bistro is casual but with a fine menu. I love it. I wish that we could get caribbean cuisine here. I miss that and the continental from living in Miami. That's the only thing I miss though

Wow, thanks for all of the input. I agree with many things said by the posters here. Finer dining doesn't have to be over priced. I have worked in many nice places in florida and louisiana. I like fusion cuisine and comfort foods as well. It looks like there are many take out places where you can get a burger or dog here but I think people might want something more.

There's a building for lease that used to be a restaurant on Main Street in North Wilkesboro...think it needs some work but you could check it out.

There is a great location in wilkesboro open. It's between arby's and long john silvers. It used to be Quincy's steakhouse.

Welcome to Wilkes- I am sure whatever you open will do well. However- there are many of us who are not originally from Wilkes who would appreciate a restaruant that did throw everything it in a vat of grease to prepare it. We are starved for a restaurant that serves real food - not saying that there are not any ot those here ( before the wolves come and rip out my throat) but they are too few and far between.Anyway- again...welcome to Wilkes
