A soul is the totality of your existence. My soul will die when I do. I believe my consciousness will end when I die.
I simply cannot accept some mythical journey to some fabled destination will occur when the neurons stop leaping the synapses in my brain.
On the other hand, I have had interesting conversations with my cat on several occasions.. HIC!!

5000 years or so ago, the egyptians revered cats saying they were a link to the spirit realm. They believed that cats lived in both worlds at the same time. I am inclined to believe there is some truth to that.

you always read some wierd story about how a loyal dog satyed by his master's body for days until it was discovered....
and then when it involves a cat, the cat had usually eaten the owners face away
