Affy is right on this one:

1) The incidence of 10 genetic disorders (42%) was significantly greater in purebred dogs.

2) The incidence of 1 disorder (ruptured cranial cruciate ligament; 4%) was greater in mixed breed dogs.

3) For the rest of the disorders examined, they found no difference in incidence between mixed and purebred dogs.

That's the most ignorant backwards logic one could come up with. A mixed breed is always going to have better odds of being healthier. Even the best pure breeds have issues of recessive genes constantly being passed along. All pure breeds have been reached with a degree of inbreeding.

Pure bred dogs aren't necessarily from a puppy mill. There are plenty of good people that breed dogs and the parent dogs are well kept.

I looked at the classifieds, though, and most of the dogs listed are either free or around $20. I think the OP just wants a pure bred dog for cheap.

"The last fur baby we had came from the shelter and we had him until he passed away."

Why not go back to the animal shelter or any area humane societies instead of paying for an inbred purebred from a local puppy mill?

I call my dogs my "kids", it's easier than saying "dogs"

I don't know that $500-800 is unrealistic for a well bred dog, though. My first dog was a mixed breed that was given to me, and she ended up dying with congestive heart failure. I spent a year of taking her to the vet, special food, etc, so it was an emotionally rough year (not to mention expensive). But a well bred dog should have bred out genetic problems like that, so they'll live longer and have fewer health problems.

I'm with Chendo. When someone says fur baby, I want to punch them in the throat

I have been looking for a puppy for sometime. I cannot believe an animal on go wilkes is around $800. The last fur baby we had came from the shelter and we had him until he passed away. I am looking for a small house puppy but there is no way i could pay $500-800.
