Don't know the Dr's name, but the office is located behind the Old Wilkes Jail Museum in the basement. Sign says Physicians Wellness I think.

Until the problem of WHY is addressed there will always be a problem of abuse of some kind...be it alcohol, marijuana, meth, pain pills. And until the REAL source who supply those who deal or use them is stopped, arresting those who are the p***ant of the operation, it won't stop either. Look at who gets arrested....doesn't look as if they're getting rich or anywhere near it but find the people who are making money...people in higher places, ie a former mayor. Mental health issues....the cost of being treated and the stigma associated with it leaves some people no place to go so they try to drown their problems in alcohol or drugs. If Wilkes rates highest in the US....even close....some where there's a problem that needs attention. Need to punish the criminals not the ones who need medicine just to carry on a half-normal life. Instead of a slap on the hand....suspended sentences, probation...make the punishment enough to deter. They get arrested one day, out in another and back to doing what they were. Find the top of the pecking order!

Unfortunately a very small percentage of ppl prescribed pain meds actually need them. Whether they fake fibromyalgia or have an MRI anomaly that doesn't really hurt but no one can prove otherwise, it sucks for the small percentage that actually need them having to be stigmatized. Best of luck to op if you're in the 1%.

I know of a person who has had multiple surgeries and can't get pain meds
.however this person shouldn't be mad at the doctors because it was that persons choice to doctor shop and abuse those meds they was given and now this person gets them off the street and from the spouse. the doctors this person has found offered to help by putting in the pump, but this person refused it because i guess you can't get high with that. When one says they are disabled and has a nurse who is supposed to clean but you just let your friend collect a paycheck by watching tv or running you to chase your next high and you stay up all night doing your house work are you really disabled if you can do that or did you just know how to play the system to get disability? Anyways some people need them and the ones that abuse them make it more inconvenient to them but as long as you are doing right why worry. as for a pain doctor in wilkes the ones who need it wouldnt benifit from it because all the pill billies would have him booked the first day.

When you look at the harm and problems caused by narcotic pain medication it outweighs the good they do for those who need them. I wish they could come up with a way to treat those who truly need them, but keep them out of the hands of those who don't. Unfortunately it's a monster that's been created that will be nearly impossible to destroy.

most ppl who are forced to pay for narcotics are not selling them....it's these folks who get medicaid and free ticket meals that get them for a few dollars and make hundreds. It's hard to get opiates from a GP due to selling and abuse, but go to them with a binder notebook full of health problems and most any will comply.

@ her koiboy

I thought the same thing. Yes, some people need the medication, but it can not be denied that sooo many in this area abuse prescription meds. This thread stinks of doctor shopping. Bring on the attacks. I am just speaking the truth.

If you truly need pain medication, then you should still understand that prescription pain medication is overly abused. And you should also realize that when people say that they disagree with making those meds more easily available, that those comments aren't directed towards those that really need the medication. A public forum really isn't the place to discuss where and from whom you can get narcotics. If you need them, then you should already have access thru your doctor, and if you can't find a doctor that will give them to you, maybe you don't really need them.

I understand that most of the time when you have pain your body is trying to tell you something and you need to listen instead of taking a pain pill to cover it up.

All GP Docs know how to treat pain. So go to your reg MD, or start seeing one.

I think there is a hint of Dr. shopping here.

Wilkes has one of the top if not the top prescription drug death rate of any county in the United states, when folks start giving away bar an kits to reverse overdoses you know there is a problem.

Finleypark- I hope you will accept my apology if my opinion offends you. I do not pretend to be a medical doctor and I believe myself to be neither carless nor ignorant. You seem to have gone to every length to
remove the pain you experience. Please know my opinion is not an attack towards you but just my opinion.
I will pray for you.

So sorry 2good2betrue for your pain, believe me I can relate. They've told everything on here but what the original question was, is there a new doc & if so what's his name & phone #?

I'm blessed to have a great doc finally after years & years of suffering but I still hurt all the time, bad, but he's taking no new patients, I hope & pray I never lose him or he he moves out of town like Dr. Emery did, you youngens better make the most of your youth because few are lucky enough to grow old w/out having ailments. So if anyone knows of a Dr who will help ppl like the one above please state who he is, thanks.

I never said my father was addicted to anything...I said that he died of Cancer and needed pain pills at the end. Some of you people who get on your soap boxes make me sick.
