Well now you know to check references and most of the time you get what you pay for. Cheap labor. ****y work

The door he broke ( busted the bottom out ) was a 6 panel bi-fold closet door from Lowes, approx. $60. It was a new door & it was already painted. I have all my receipts. All he had to do was put the hardware on & it in place. INCOMPETENT is the word that comes to mind !
The $75 was for material to start a small gate to go across my porch. He signed a receipt. I have talked with 2 of his neighbors & they comfirmed his DECEITFUL & DISHONEST practices ! ! But no one wants to get involved . .

How much money are you out?

Typically, home repair payments are made in thirds, First you get an estimate, then one third down, one third midway and one third on completion. I have done major remodels with lots of contractors and most folks do the the whole third rule thing. Of course you have to work out who supplied the door. Your post does not make that clear. Anyhow, if he charged you 75 initially, that would be a pretty cheap job totaling 225. Can you even file small claims for that?

Know a dozen or more contractors who have completed work with no money up front and never got paid from dishonest people.

This isn't the only company to do something like this. I know people who have done similar things to different people. First, take over half their money up front but never come back to finish or sometimes never even start the job. Then, they refuse to answer phone calls and never return calls. Ridiculous.

Clay's Home Repairs gave us an estimate for a small job. He required a $75 deposit for " materials ". While trying to install a new closet door he scratched our floor, hit the wall leaving a mark & broke the door he was trying to install. Incompetent ? He will not respond to our efforts to get our deposit back, not to mention the door he broke. He must be so embarrassed ! He should be ! Has anyone else had any complaints against Clay's Home Repairs ? If not let me be the first . . . .

If this is true and he's avoiding you then he done an illegal act, you should sign him up for "catch a contractor." What you need to do first is contact the police and take evidence down but when ever you higher people like this always.....and I mean always take down every bit of information even a picture of their id.I'm wondering if he even has a contracting license saying that he has experience.
What we have is a case of the half *** job and ran away with the loot which in the court of law is totally illegal and you can take him to court by making him give not just money back but also the damages to your house.

I don't know this guy but if you are this unhappy don't just talk it up on here go get you a lawyer and see if you can get your money back. I would wonder though if maybe you didn't break the door after he left and now wanting to hurt his business and get your work done for free.

$75 is a small price to pay for ones honor & respectability.

Legitimate businesses don't ask for money before they finish the job. Real businesses can procure whatever is needed to complete the job.

Yeah, but he still got your $75.00...not so incompetent from the looks of things, unless your signed contract states that the deposit is refundable!!!!

So does it state that???

Clay's Home Repair was INCOMPETENT & MOST OF ALL DISHONEST ! ! !

IF I did a survey for you it would be half up front and the other half upon delivery of the documents. Even if you didn't like the outcome I would still be collecting my money one way or another.

A door on a manufactured home is nearly nothing for interior doors. Did you have the area clear of obstructions so he could have a work area or was the area cluttered with barely enough room to fart.

Clay's Home Repair has DECEITFUL business practices & the owner was incompetent for this job. In fact, after talking to someone else ( who I wish I had know before this ) I found out that this is not the first time he has been DISHONEST ! ! Only they did not prosecute . . . I am going to tell EVERYONE I know & they are telling others as well ! I work with a lot of people & the word is getting out in the community. So sad he did not even attempt to resolve this with us . . . This could have been an easy fix ! But he wanted to keep our $75. Is it worth it ?
