At the current budget, if Millers Creek FD is granted it's request, it would collect over a half million dollars a year in taxes. WOW. It already collects more than any other volunteer department.in the county.

Incorporate,
I'll wager that if MILLERS CREEK doesn't incorporate within the next 5 years, the town of Wilkesboro will take in all of 16 North from 421 to the BOONE Trail intersection.

Just barely a little over $1000.00 per day. WHO could get by on that? There are hoses to be rolled and 120 foot ladder truck to be rinsed off. Can you imagine sending the ladder truck to rescue people from the top floor of Randy's Produce and people getting their hands dirty sliding to the ground on a dirty ladder? Tightwads

What is the tax revenue for MCFD per year?

CowBoysFan

Sorry it's $30.00 per year per $100,000.00 of taxable property.

Osmosis,
MCFD is asking for what amounts to a $30.00 a year increase per $1000.00 of taxable property, that's $30.00 a year or $2.50 per month, $2.50 per month.

If your house caught on fire and they put it out, or if you or a loved one needed someone with a hose there while you were being extricated from a car wreck you'd think they were the greatest thing since sliced bread. Go by there and price some of the equipment they have to buy to get you a lower tax rating on your property insurance. Get up in the middle of the night and stay out 3-4 hours before you have to go to work the next day and see if you appreciate them. Bunch of tightwads never volunteered for anything to help your community.

Here's a novel idea, If you own real property in the Millers Creek fire district go by the FD and ask to speak to the Chief, I'm sure they'll be glad to let you know why they asked for the increase.

I definitely would want to know what it's for as well as an audit of all expenses.

Camopoop, BINGO!!!! You nailed it exactly.

Any fire district tax increase should be voted on by those in the district. It should not be decided by the County Commissioners. What do they need the extra money for? Millers Creek has one of the nicest and newest fire stations in the county. It has quality, up to date equipment. This is a tough year for all working families with this pandemic we are experiencing, and any extra taxes would be a hardship for many homeowners. Fire departments, like all of us, need to tighten their belts and be satisfied with what they have. NO NEW TAXES.

They do run medical calls and are a state certified rescue squad, not to mention one the busiest departments in the county.

Does Millers Creek run medical calls?

What's funny is, I'd say most of their members are conservative, you know the same ones that don't want their taxes

Laying aside all BS, Millers Creek Fire Dept. does not need more tax money!

Gotta provide giant window stickers to all the volunteers. And new radios so they can get hard when it goes off.

Who among us cannot forgo a few big macs to help pay for the high quality service our fire departments provide?

Do you not realize how much it cost to upgrade the chrome on your trucks so you can get noticed at the parade? I wish someone would post '"just the price of chrome options" added to the cost of a fire truck. I would be willing to guess it would be more than the cost of the truck.
