When it comes to cutting senior employees in management my friends wife that works for Lowes told me a formula they use to decide who goes is if your age plus your years of service equals seventy five your out the door. They said they will meet their numbers one way or another so at least the stock holders will be happy.

They're getting rid of older, higher paid employees on the corporate side. They're hiring lower paid wages in the Call Center for those odd shifts.

IIRC, in January they let 1,300 people go, and said they were going to lay off a total of 3,000 this year.
Why they're hiring 600 people is anybody's guess. I suspect they're getting rid of people that make too much money and replacing them with people that will do the same job for less.

Maybe Trump will step in and save them. I do know that many of them "were" Trump supporters.

Lowes is a dying company. It started dying when the housing market died. There is not much chance things will get better for Lowes. The housing market is still bad and is not showing much of a chance of improvement. Therefore, Lowes and companies like Lowes are going to get worst.

45 years is the magic number in the corporate world. After you reach 45 years old it is just a matter of time before you lose your job. You need to plan for that.

From the JP:
The woman said most, if not all, of the people who lost their jobs today were longtime Lowe's employees.
"I was given 15-30 minutes to say my goodbyes and get my belongings. They said they would send the remainder (of her belongings) in 30 days," she added.

Mooresville let 430 go today and Wilkesboro about 70. That's just sad.

Very sad and disappointing for folks who have given them their years of service. But it may work out for their good, they might be better off without Lowes in their life.

Yes, if you want to work like you are in a prison, ie bathroom breaks, pink slips, childish people to report to. That all makes a huge difference, if you are not there go and work there for awhile and then let me know what you think.

The job cut announcement sometime back indicated that the cuts would be over a period of time. But I agree they need to get rid of the idiot at the top and start from there.
I have owned Lowes stock for over 55 years but am getting ready to divest my portfolio of all of it. They are not as bad as JC Penny but they are wallowing in their own muck
