AS LONG AS MY INCOME TAX IS DECREASED, I WILL GLADLY PAY MORE SALES TAX AT PLACES LIKE MASSAGE PARLORS!

How about the 3x increase in tax on food? Gladly pay that as well?

People have been voting against their best interests for ages. This is just proof.

In addition, the plan would apply the 6.5 percent state sales tax to prescription drugs and food, which aren't taxed at the state level. Nonprofits would also lose their ability to get a state sales tax refund on purchased goods and services. Social Security would face a state tax for residents who also draw other income.

Now is the time to have open season on politicians.

North Carolina Senate presents tax reform: takes from the poor, gives to the rich. Would increase taxes of a family of four making $30k by $1,000. Reduces taxes of family of four making $500k by $22,000.

Frankly, your argument is flawed. Those who make more money have more disposable income and thus buy far more taxable "services" than those making less. This means they will be affected more by the expanded sales tax. The idea that people purchasing less services will pay more taxes simply doesn't make sense. Plus, those with small incomes get another break on their income taxes.

Going by sales tax helps people like me out big time. However, it's not fair to the population as a whole. Someone who has to buy food / items for a whole family is going to get stiffed over a lot more than someone like me, who only has to buy single portions of things.

I think this is one of the worst moves the state can do, as far as fiscal responsibility goes.

If it does pass, I guess I will know what's it like to be a Republican. Benefiting off the laws while a majority of the people in the state suffer.

It is appalling how those so obsessed with their political viewpoint only tell one side of the truth.

"It expands the sales tax base so everyone is treated fairly, everyone pays their fair share and no one gets special breaks or loopholes."

Except not so much. This gives a rather large break to the top income earners. For the rest of the population not so much in reality thanks to the nature of the sales tax. In order for a sales tax to treat everyone equally they would have to all spend all or most of their money. For most they have to spend every dime they get.

Yes the tax system needs work I think everyone can agree on that. This however blows a hole open in the budget and then attempts to fill it by taxing those with the least amount of money more. It adds additional paperwork and expense to many small businesses who under this will have to act as tax collectors for the state and thus drive up the cost of those services in addition to the added tax being imposed. Its all around a piss poor policy.

The solution is to.Impeach McCrory now before he can.do any more damage, and vote out all incumbents in 2014.

to be or not to be

don't blame me for McCrory being in office. I voted Democrate.

All of the republicans can blame themselves.

They were the sheep being led around and told what to do.

Pat yourselves on the back and celebrate your accomplishment.

You all did the physically impossible. You all intercoursed yourselves.

North Carolina consumers currently only pay the 2 percent local government food tax. The state misses out on more than $600 million by exempting the state's portion of the sales tax on food.

It is appalling how those so obsessed with their political viewpoint only tell one side of the truth. Here is the key points provided by the tax overhaul that hasn't been adjusted since the depression era. I assume that those same folks will return their portion of the tax Decrease that the new administration is trying to inact. It's about time something was done to heal the absolute abomination imposed upon NC by the prior administration.

The following was copied from the WRAL news site.
-------

The Tax Fairness Act would:

Reduce the top state personal income tax rate from 7.75 to 4.5 percent over three years and reduce the tax rate on lower income earners from 6 to 0 percent immediately upon implementation of the plan.
Apply the new 0 percent state income tax bracket to the following income amounts:
First $10,000 of income in 2014
First $12,500 of income in 2015 and 2016
First $15,000 of income in 2017
Reduce the corporate income tax from 6.9 percent to 6 percent over three years.
Reduce the combined local and state sales tax from 6.75 percent to 6.5 percent and expand the sales tax base to include services. Business-to-business transactions within the expanded base will not be taxed.
Reduce the business franchise tax by 10 percent.
Eliminate North Carolina's death tax.

"This plan provides the largest tax cut in state history," said Senate Finance Committee Co-Chairman Bob Rucho (R-Mecklenburg). "It expands the sales tax base so everyone is treated fairly, everyone pays their fair share and no one gets special breaks or loopholes."

Yeh, because those small businesses that use that first $50,000 to write off to help with pay for employees, are freeloaders.

Those people that use their mortgage as a deduction on their taxes... Those people are freeloaders.

I believe the tea party distributed the home address of the lawmakers involved in the healthcare bill, sounds like its time for turnabout to be fair play. Maybe people sitting on the lawn with signs every time they come through the door will let them know what their constituents think of their plans.
