It is common sense.

Nothing like watching Republicans flaunt their total ignorance of economics while calling said ignorance common sense.

Its not a quote of anybody.

It is common sense.

If you don't want to pat tax on mountain dew, don't but mountain dew...Why tax the person who is waking up and going to work?

Tax the users.

"VOTING THEM ALL OUT" AND "IMPEACHMENT" SOUNDS GOOD WHEN YOU ARE SITTING AROUND WITH YOUR OTHER RED NECK BUDDIES, BUT IT ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN. I AM GLAD TO SEE A POSSIBLE CHANCE AT HAVING "FAIR" TAXES. IT ISN'T FAIR FOR THE WORKING PEOPLE TO PAY ALL THE TAX. I LIKE THE IDEA OF LOWERING INCOME TAXES AND RAISING SALES TAXES. IT MAKES SENSE TO ME, BUT THAT IS SOMETHING MOST LIBERALS AREN'T BLESSED WITH, COMMON SENSE!

Actually, Mr Bush makes a great point: The fault in the NC State sales tax's increase lies not in the Governor's Mansion, but in the State Capitol; YugoMan makes another one: Watch out, incumbents: 2014's coming!

I think a few good things that will come out of this new deal is that all people in the state including the ones traveling in and out of NC will contribute by higher sales tax, and for the near "half a million illegal immigrants" that does not pull their fair share will help off set the expense that is given away daily through our social benefits.

Impeachment is fun though. Remember what fun it was to.Impeach Clinton, and he just did it to an intern. Pat is targeting the whole state.:'(

Frankly, your argument is flawed. Those who make more money have more disposable income and thus buy far more taxable "services" than those making less. This means they will be affected more by the expanded sales tax. The idea that people purchasing less services will pay more taxes simply doesn't make sense. Plus, those with small incomes get another break on their income taxes.

This is incorrect but it is however a typical argument in favor of such measures. Perhaps this will convey the reason.

Take 3 different incomes for this we will use 10k 200k and 1 million. The person making 10k is going to spend all of that on goods and services subject to sales tax. If the sales tax rate is say 7% this amounts to taxing 7% of their income. The person making 200k might spend all 200k and thus have a taxable income of 7%. On the other-hand at 200k they are in a far better position to do other things with their money. The effect of this is to reduce the percentage of income they pay in taxes. So someone making 10k would have a tax rate of 7% someone making 200k might drop to 6%.

Now take someone with an income of 1 million and then the disparity becomes obvious. Millionaires even those living what could be considered fairly high class lifestyles are not going to spend more than 300 to 500k a year on average. So if your using a sales tax centered system as the state GOP seems to favor already you are effectively exempting half or more of the wealthiest individuals income from taxation.

The net result of a sales tax centered system looks more like this using a base figure of 7%.
0-100k 7%
100-500k 5%-7%
500k-1000000 3.5%-5.3%
One million and more 3.5%-0.00001%

The idea that people purchasing less services will pay more taxes simply doesn't make sense

And this is where people seem to fail on this issue. They seem to think in terms of dollar amounts rather than percentage of total income. In taxes its the percentage that really matters not the dollar figure. Obviously the millionaire will pay more dollars in taxes than the person making 10k. But the person making 10k looses 7% of his or her income to taxation while the millionaire looses 3.5% or less.

Moving on from the Impeach notion;

The new Tax Bill will hurt. It'll hurt small business. It will low and middle income families.

It will help those making above $500,000.

Seems about right.

I get the debates back and forth regarding the tax plan, but that whole, "impeach, impeach, impeach" BS every time you're not 100% on a politician's side is counterproductive and silly.

Yep, no need to impeach. McCrory is a moderate man. Remove the idiots in the Capitol and he'll be all right.

Just remember to vote out those in November 2014. Better yet, remove the chance of them running in November 2014 by voting them out during the primaries.

Everyone is excited that their income tax will go down.

But they don't realize that taxes everywhere else will go up. Which means they'll actually be spending more money on taxes in the long run.

You didn't think the state wouldn't get their money on the back-end, did you?

In fact if you make 30k a year, on average you'll be paying $1,000 dollars more a year in taxes.

Umpire take your BS to another thread. This is actual discussion we don't need trolling going on.

People need to see what their elected officials are doing and you mucking everything up in the thread will derail it.

Go away.
