I am an independent voter. And I believe there are a lot of us out there and we are growing.

There are so many jobs in America that some are swimming the Rio Grande just to get one. We welcome all these new applicants with open arms because they are doing jobs your friends son will not do. Like jobs at Tyson etc. Too bad that all those coming across the border have squeaky clean criminal record, (or at least that is what they say and we don't have a system in place to check THEM.

The job market is tough for everyone now. Tell him to keep trying & not give up. Someone sooner or later will see how hard he is trying & it will pay off for him. Tell him good luck for me!

He should just man up, and go where the good paying jobs are. Might be the military, but that does include some travel. Is he up for that?

He needs to go back to court and get a limited license so he can drive to and from work.

If he doesn't have at least a Bachelor's degree already then he should go get one. With student loans and grants he might start out 100 g's in debt and then driving a Corvette before he's 30.

So sad that he cannot find a job. Try the Career Center in N. Wilkesboro or calll Work Force in Elkin 336-258-2505. They also have offices in Charlotte, High Point, Mount Airy, Reidsville, Statesville and Yadkinville.

IApparently, if you are arrested your arrest record is made public, even if you are found innocent. Then if you are found guilty, to add insult to injury your record is held against you. I believe we are on this earth to realize our mistakes and thus become better people. We may make mistakes and then later realize what we did wrong and want to change.

This guy is awful young and needs someone to give him a chance.

I know several fellows with mid range felonies that have worked hard and lived right that are managers and engineers. They had to work harder than others but they are **** good at what they do.

It is possible to get a job and succeed. You have to look hard and not give up

The question should be "do you have transportation".

Unless the DL has a direct relation to his performance of the job it cannot be taken into consideration when hiring although we all know it is.

It is not his record that is keeping him from getting a job it is the lack of a DL.

Joining the Military sounds good to me. Maybe that is what he should do instead of feeling sorry for himself. Won't need to drive in the army.

Has he been Job Hunting yesterday and today? or sitting on his butt wanting someone else to find him a job. Why doesn't he do his own posting? Can go to the library and use their computers and go to the employment office and file for a job.

has he considered the military?

seriously he can work and they will educate him as far as job training.

Also when he gets out he will be eligible for VA loans for houses etc.

He might try checking with some of the poultry farmers in the area about working in chicken houses. Nasty and hot work, but they also sometimes provide housing & utilities plus a salary. The salary won't be huge, but with free housing & utilities, it's worth a looksee.

His is not a felony conviction it was a misdemeanor and yes he is honest and up front about what happened. Its awful I know..but it's the only time he's ever been in trouble..he's paying the price for sure.

Look it's not just in Wilkes. My friend had a RO over a couple of text messages and now can't buy a dang job. Stupid I know, but sometimes a misdemeanor is as bad as a felony. If people had a clue how hard it is to find a job with ANYTHING on your record it might just make us think twice before doing stupid ****.

This is one of the reasons that I'm personally opposed to criminal records being public record. If someone commits a non-violent crime and has done their time, there's no sense in them being socially punished for several more years.

All that it really accomplishes is pushing one-time criminals in to becoming life-long criminals. When they can't find a job, they inevitably HAVE to turn to crime just to survive.

The lack of a DL is the big issue for employers. Without a DL, there is no guarantee that he will be able to get back and forth to work.

His options? Try Tyson. Try construction. Try lawn care companies. The Tyson option is probably out, honestly, and so are most regional/national companies.

I have a friend that works at Tyson, and had a DUI last year. So it's possible, but I don't know if it's easy. Still, I say again to have him go to Job Link. If anyone can find him a job, or at least get him in the right direction, they can.

Is he honest about his conviction on the application? Folks will often lie about convictions which keeps them from getting hired, but folks who are honest and attach the proper documentation are usually not discriminated against for it.
