I wouldn't think so. I have taken home cooked meals before. Think I will make a big pot of soup and take over in the next few days.

Are there restrictions, or guidelines, for home-cooked meals?

I helped a few years ago on my own. Then I remember later on a group got together from here and helped also. From this point forward, I will donate food items only though. So anyone who is looking to donate to anyone this year, here is you a place you can start with.

Things I don't understand.
Why can't they use a simple stove. Even in hud housing, a stove is a must. So why can't the shelter use a stove?
Why can't the shelter receive food stamps to help buy food? They give to everyone else in the county.
Why are they put out on the street in the winter?
Anyways, I'm sure the shelter would appreciate anything or food donations they can get.

Reposting this......Sharing an email that I received today. There is a great need in our community right now. If you are able to help, please do!
Once a month on the 3rd Tuesday I take a meal to the homeless shelter on Highway 18. Last night while there I learned that our local shelter has no food. They were full (which is technically 10, but can be as many as 14-16 residents) and nothing to eat.
According to the employee I spoke with, Christmas is usually their biggest time for collections. He said that he is accustomed to having more food than they can use and having to freeze items for later use. This year they have had little or no donations.
Because of insurance policies they are not allowed to use the stove. They do have a outside grill and a microwave. They are also appreciative of cooked meals. Extras are great because they can warm them the next day.
Our local shelter is an overnight facility. Clients are provided a place to sleep and one meal for up to 14 nights per year. The shelter is open from 6:30 p.m.until 6:30 a.m.
Since they must leave early in the morning, coffee, and coffee cups with lids and individually wrapped snacks and cakes are needed. Clients can take these with them while they hunt a warm place to stay for the day.
The shelter will eventually receive some food from the 2nd Harvest Food Bank, but that could take weeks. In addition, because of the small size our shelter does not qualify for many of the programs and resources.
I have heard (and said) "I am about funded and gifted out this year." I understand that, but if you have a little extra here are people who could use it. Last week there was a woman with a four year old. Last night there was an old man who grabbed my hand and said they told us you were coming. There was also this tall kid who hugged me and said, "Hey Mrs. Johnson" He was an AIG kid I taught years ago who has somehow lost his way.
Ok. The sermon is over. If you can help bring items to me or if you want to add meaning to your own Christmas take items to the shelter yourself. They are open after 6:30 each evening. They are located on Sparta Road ( Hwy 18) just above the Pizza Hut.
Thanks,
Catherine H Barber Homeless Shelter 86 Sparta Road (PO Box 52) North Wilkesboro, NC 28659 (336) 838-7120 (after 6:00)
