Girls getting paid not to get pregnant

The Great Space Wizard

Posted 1:28 am, 06/27/2009

"I found this to be the most interesting part of the article! It's actually in the kids benefit to encourage her friends to get pregnant; the more girls that get knocked up, the more money she'll get!"

But it's also a little counterintuitive. If all but a few dropout or get pregnant then the program ultimately fails.

We need to cut back on welfare. It is a huge burden on the hard working citizens. Now we are paying for girls not to get pregnant, plus paying for the ones that do. Come on people. Think about this. If idiots want to donate to this, so be it. But don't use my tax dollars on it.

Lets start paying criminals to stay out of jail. I had rather pay them to stay out than to pay to feed them and keep them up. What a stupid idea. We shouldn't pay criminals to stay out of jail and we shouldn't pay girls not to get pregnant.

I would rather our tax money pay for them not to get pregnant that pay for their medicaid, foodstamps, and whatever else. It just make me mad to know that if I needed help, me and my husband couldn't go up their and get any because we are married and work.

I don't believe it'll work. I wish it would, because I think a lot of kids mess themselves and their future up when they get pregnant, but I don't think it will work.

Oltimes, I believe that when people refer to teenagers getting knocked up, they're usually referring to school-aged teens. 19 is still way too young, but at least you were able to graduate high school and enter the work force first.

I was watching a documentary recently about teen girls getting pregnant, and they mentioned that statistically, 80% of the girls become single mothers (meaning, the father disappears). This is why the wide majority of them are on welfare.

If a girl drops out or gets pregnant, her money is divided among the other girls still in the program.

I found this to be the most interesting part of the article! It's actually in the kids benefit to encourage her friends to get pregnant; the more girls that get knocked up, the more money she'll get!

You know what's not fair about it, though, is that there's no program for the guys to get money towards college for not getting a girl knocked up.

Yep bravo SMK. You are really proud of yourself. You seem to think that the whole world should be exactly like you. How many times did you tell us about "I"?

88 that is very good., glad that YOU had that chance. the girls that this program is aimed at are 12-18 years old. at the very best they can make 356 dollars a year. most people spend a dollar a day on pepsi.
Its not about the money here, its about giving these girls the proper education about getting pregnant and maybe a chance at a little money to go to school
SMK, thanks for your life story, I learned to plant christmas trees when I was 6 years old, that was 31 years ago, and I still havent stopped.

Oltimes88, you are correct. My parents were highschool students when they had my sister and 6 months out of high school when they had me. (Then they had my younger sister before they finally wised up on how babies are made.) My parents made it work. My mother took very good care of us and my father worked double plus time. My grandparents were supportive but they let my parents know that they were there for emergencies only and that my parents were expected to make it work. My parents made it work, without financial support from the government or my grandparents because they had a strong family ethic and a strong work ethic.

What gets me is that so many of you think that just because a teenage girl gets pregnant they are automaticaly going to be on welfare. I know lots of them might, but not all of them. I was a teen mom at age 19 and fortunatley I havent had to have help from the government. My daughter is 3 years old and I get no help whatsoever. Me and my husband both have very good jobs and my husband has health insurance at his job, therefore there is not a need for it.

One of the most valuable things my parents taught me was that my personal responsibilities was for me. I was expected to do them without pay. I was part of my family and my community I I was not going to get paid for doing what was right. I worked doing lawn mowing, racking leaves, fast food, retail, parking cars, carrying bags, driving a van, painting houses, cleaning houses, building homes. I worked from a very early age. I was expected to buy my own clothes as a teenager as well as use my own money for any recreation. If I got a girl pregnant my parents would have beat some sense into me and then make me get another job. If I did drugs they would have beat some sense into me and kicked me out of the house. Not getting pregnant is their personal responsibility. You don't pay someone for that, no matter how many meetings they go to. "Hi my name is Jill... and I get paid to not get pregnant." Hi Jill!

Almost everyday I read on here that someone is complaining what their tax dollars are spent on. Unfortunatley, that is not for you to decide. Atleast this is a program meant to help these girls keep from getting pregnant. I am sure it wont stop all of them but for those it does help, then that is saving alot of "your taxdollars" because if they did get pregnant chances are they will be on welfare for a long period of time. I am happier knowing that this will keep some from getting pregnant which is saving money in the long run.

What makes you think they are doing nothing? Have you attended the meetings?

SMK

Getting paid to do nothing is welfare.

For the girls the program is aimed at a little contact with a good role model may make the difference, I had rather that my tax money go to this than to paying for welfare.

This is such a great program. Rarely do you see pro-life organizations putting their money where their mouth is but I am willing to match donations for a few participants. Thanks for the link to donate.
