IN 1307, IN FRANCE, KING PHILLIP IV HAD THE KNIGHTS TEMPLARS ARRESTED, TORTURED AND BURNED AT THE STAKE. BECAUSE OF HIS INDEBTEDNESS, HE HAD POPE CLEMENT V, WHO WAS HIS PUPPET, DISBAND THE KNIGHTS TO GAIN CONTROL OF THEIR WEALTH.

WITHIN A MONTH, CLEMENT V DIED A PAINFUL DEATH FROM LUPUS AND LESS THAN EIGHT MONTHS LATER PHILLIP IV DIED IN A HUNTING ACCIDENT.
