Misinformation

OK lets pretend for a second that since it doesn't affect how he does his job, how is it anyone's business...

Why would anyone care if a Catholic priest molested an alter boy because after all it doesn't affect his job to preach a homily?

Why would anyone care if a chief of police got a DUI because after all it doesn't affect his ability to tell his officers to enforce the law?

Why would anyone care if a doctor is writing scripts left and right for opioids because after all it doesn't affect his ability to treat Grandpa Jim Bob's broken leg?

Why would anyone care if a fire chief is charged with domestic violence because after all he can still tell his firemen what to do?

The reason? Because every one of those is WRONG and just like all of the examples above it is a perception issue. Priest, Police, Doctors and Firemen are all people that members of society look up to for comfort, protection, healing and doing the things that they could never do, or would never do, themselves.

I doubt anyone would say "Oh look there is Father Julian who was charged with molesting Little Johnny the alter boy but that is OK and we shouldn't worry about it because it isn't our business so here you go Father Julian can you baptist our child?"

So using the thought process that if it doesn't affect ones job then a church, a police department or a medical review board like above should do absolutely nothing even though the organization knows that the actions of an individual put the organization in a horrible light and erodes public trust within the community? I mean I've read that statement multiple times and if that is the case then it reminds me of one of the best memes on the internet ... Well that is just a special kind of stupid.

Carry on...

I thought the exact same thing, glitter. If it doesn't affect how he does his job, how is it anyone's business?

Well, he didn't whip her in the chief's car, or in the station or on the clock so maybe we should question how much of this is "our" business.

Bad, why should we shut up and mind our own business. This is a gentleman that drives a fire chief car and represents the town of North Wilkesboro and the North Wilkesboro Fire Dept. He has been accused of domestic violence against a woman (the woman being his wife). This is and should be an embarrassment to every citizen of North Wilkesboro. Don't tell me it is none of my business.

Where did this wreck occur Shadow? Was it while he was driving his chief's car? It's a funny thing to me that this is the first fire chief in NW fire dept. history that has ever been given a fire chief car. The previous men have all driven their own car.

The shadow knows

Relieved from duty? Hmmmm, ya think the wrecked he had a few weeks ago when he was under the influence might have had anything to do with it. The broom and run is only so big

WXII 12 news reported Mr. Martin is "no longer acting as Chief, he is on administrative leave until further notice." This was in an email to them from Mr. South.

The man is presumed innocent till a judge says he is not, If you feel that raw about it I suggest you go to a board meeting and speak right up or work on getting out the vote to change things, That would be much more productive than sniping at a man behind a brand new screen name, and that's all I have to say about that, Amax out

Can't lay it all at the Town Manager's feet even though Larry South is the one that appoints the fire chief. The good ole boy network of Mayor Robert Johnson and Commissioners Bert Hall and Bart Hayes share just as much blame. And while nothing surprises with those 3 the Commissioners of Debbie Ferguson and Joe Johnston (Junior gets a pass since he wasn't there when the current chief was appointed) share in the blame as well since the Board are the controlling members who hire the Town Manager and they could have easily addressed this the night that it happened as there was a special meeting of the Board the night of Wednesday, June 14th..

Hard to believe that the Town Board, Town Manager and Town Mayor are OK with this entire episode. Who knows as they might not be but the refusal to act speaks volumes and when you don't act to remedy the situation you are giving appearance that you don't care what the accused / arrested / offender has done.

Maybe members of the town and the county should ask these ELECTED officials why they have done nothing to address the arrest of one of their employees for domestic violence. Of maybe ask the Town Manager who acts as the administrative head and carries out the polices that are made by the Board of Commissioners.

There is a contact page on http://www.north-wilkesboro...officials/ but this will save you the trouble as the information from that page is listed below.

Mayor Robert L. Johnson - (336) 667-0115 - [email protected]
Commissioner Debbie Ferguson - (336) 667-0333 - [email protected]
Commissioner Junior Goforth - (336) 667-0101 - [email protected]
Commissioner Bert Hall - (336) 667-0260 - [email protected]
Commissioner Bart Hayes - (336) 667-7129, ext. 3001 - [email protected]
Commissioner Joe Johnston - (336) 467-7166 - [email protected]
Town Manager Larry South - (336) 667-7129 ext. 3012 - [email protected]

Or better yet if you are a resident of North Wilkesboro, or from the county since I'm sure they have no clue who 3/4 of the people they are elected to serve actually are, why not ask the Town Board in person at the Town Board Commissioners meeting scheduled for Tuesday, June 27th at 5:30 PM in the Board Room located at 210 9th Street in downtown North Wilkesboro? And if you are wondering why the Town Board made a change to hold their meetings at 5:30 when people might still be working or trying to get home a few years ago versus holding it later then you've already witnessed how much the Town Board dislikes confrontation and how uncomfortable they are if presented with a room full of people.

ALL of these ELECTED officials work for the residents of North Wilkesboro so you have EVERY right to question WHY they have tried to keep this quiet and WHY they are apparently OK with domestic violence given their inaction on the issue at hand. Sure the response will probably be "It is a personnel issue and we are handling it internally" but that would at least be more than ANY of them have said at this time other than the lip service from the Town Manager in the buried Journal Patriot story where he says "Martin remains the town's fire chief."

Maybe if the Town Board won't hold their employees accountable the voters of North Wilkesboro will hold Mayor Robert L Johnson and Commissioners Bart Hayes and Debbie Ferguson accountable come November as all 3 of these are up for re-election.

There is coming a day when all injustices will be revealed. The corruption goes deep. Sad but true.

I bet the chief isn't the only official who was in this situation. I know
Another traffic stop that ended with absolutely no consequences whatsoever involving an official.

The chief should have his lawyer do a little research...
If he is guilty, I wonder if any judge might turn red when the case is heard!

Course that would be a open stand against the powers that be much different than hiding behind a brand new screen name and talking smack

Just gotta say that I'm sure if you ask his wife, as well as people that really know, this is not the first time he has done something like this. But I sure hope it's the last. Any of the former fire chiefs had pulled a stunt like this they would have been rode out of town on a rail. He represents the entire body that makes up the fire department. None of them respect him or trust him due to the political pawn he turned out to be. They just have too much of their lives invested in the place to say anything. Larry South, you should be ashamed of yourself for not standing behind those firemen!! Do your job for once why don't you?

How embarrassing for the citizens of North Wilkesboro. The chief should have the decency to step down from his position and let someone have the job that doesn't make the channel 12 news for assaulting his wife. His wife is a nice lady and she also deserves better treatment. Larry South, town manager, should be ashamed of himself for not already naming a new chief. Everybody in the county has been talking about this since it happened and the fire department in NW certainly deserves better.
