wonder what that land is worth?

I remember watching an episode of Oprah where her and Gail went to live at a primitive colony like the pilgrims. I'm wondering how these people were doing this and not being forced to adhere to modern day codes?

They didn't even use toilet paper!

the other side of that coin, is he is charging people to come and live at hs place, and he is not following all of the other requirements that others do.

other campsite/primitive lodging faclities have to be inspected, and be up to code.
restaurants have to have running water and electricity, and be inspected by the health department

The last time I checked you could build any structure in the woods/ mountains that you wanted to. But you could not have electric power ( water, lights, etc.) without and inspection. Yes he is running a class but it is no different than someone learning to live off the land like our ancestors did. I personally think he wants know one to feel sorry for him. If everybody lived like he does we as a whole would be better off. As long as he pays his taxes they should leave him alone. He is NOT hurting anyone.

i don't disagree...i think it was a confluence of events that created this "perfect storm." even eustace won't admit to some of the very real issues...he sees it purely about himself wanting to live free...

heck, he has been giving interviews in magazines and documentaries for years. the first time i ever heard about him was in a 1998 article in GQ magazine

What y'all don't understand is that the county government actually had been giving the idiot a pass and not looking too hard at his place for years, until Conway decided to draw attention to his business and get in a pissing match with the county. And instead of trying to work with the first department that came out over an issue, he turned it into a fight. So then they clearly decided other county departments should take a closer look too

the case they have against him is valid...but that doesn't mean that the developers of some high dollar communities on the next mountain over don't have an eye on his property...rumor has it that they "directed" the county's attention to mr. comway

After the revolution the lard-*** bureaucrats will be the ones rummaging through trash for scraps of food. Useless box-checkers with nothing to contribute to society.

Firstly, the "Boone" government has nothing to do with this. It is in Watauga county, not the Boone city limits. Secondly, there are a series of articles in the Watauga Democrat on this person and he is far from perfect in this situation.

Sorry. Can't feel sorry for Mr. Conway on this one. If he's going to charge people money to come and camp at his property and attend his "school", then he has to adhere to modern day safety codes. He has kid campers there every year, and as such, has a responsibility to the kids to ensure their safety. Too bad if he thinks that modern day building codes aren't "fair." Everybody else has to adhere to them.

He's not quite as squeaky clean as he looks this guy. He paints a "poor me" picture pretty well, but he's not as innocent and "aw shucks" as he tries to make people believe.

If he wasn't teaching a class, do you think they would still have a problem? Or is it because he is running it as a business?

The rules are not the same for city living as they are for rural living, nor rural living , to country living, or mountain living. The man has decided he wants to live a secluded life away from everything and everyone, free as possible, without all the conveniences of modern day living. So why don't government stay out of his life and let him live free. You and I know why. He probably pays his property taxes because there is no way he can avoid them, but every other form of government wants to get their little hand out off of him too. No one has ever been completely free from any type of government, it doesn't make any difference what you say. But the United States is being more controlling all the time just like the communist and socialist run governments. Its said to say but we as the United States Citizen is gradually losing all our freedoms. They want to tell us how much we can eat, drink, work and everything else by government control. Many freedoms are being taken away and ran by government control and its getting worse all the time. No he hasn't decided to live the life we live and he shouldn't have to march to the same rules we do.

I'd almost bet that if the truth was told about this story, some developer is wanting that land. I bet secretly that is the real reason why Suddenly Boone Government is giving him a hard time.

This is just one more story where the government has No business, none being in this mans business. He's had that school for 26 years with no problems. That speaks volumes to me, how about you? He pays his taxes, that's his way of making money, it's his home and he has a right. I would bet if he had every single person who attends his school sign a health and safety waver the County would still not accept that.

The ****s have no problems putting people out of their houses and making them depend on the government a man like that has a home, a life and job he tends for himself, them sorry politicians can't deal with a man being independent!

Everybody should raise sand and tell Boone Government to leave that man a lone and let him teach people and make his living. I totally agree Stop Government Bullies and Tactics they use to undermine people's way of life and businesses!

So in your travels, you believe every structure you see meets code? I dare say the man accepts no gov. handouts

& pays his taxes. He lives as my grandpa did who passed at 99 & happy. I say leave him the **** alone!

I see it as he brought it on his self!! He is no better that the rest of us to follow the rules.. If he would have not went on Mtn man show and showed everything he owns then he would probably still be getting by with everything..
