North Wilkesboro police have charged a Roaring River woman with embezzling $4,361 from SunTrust Bank on Main Street, North Wilkesboro.

Tiffany Prevette, 26, of Poplar Springs Road was arrested Feb. 6.

The SunTrust area bank manager notified SunTrust Bank Corporate Security of the outstanding differences and ATM shortages against the North Wilkesboro branch totaling $4,361 on Jan. 31, stated a police report.

Sgt. Joel B. Martin of the North Wilkesboro Police Department reported that he was notified about the matter on Jan. 7.

Martin reported that Ms. Prevette is accused of processing cash out transactions on her teller system, while not sending tickets for the processing.

"This results in the teller cash box appearing to balance, however the money is missing," he reported.

His report listed 10 instances in which Ms. Prevette embezzled money, the first on Nov. 14 and the last on Dec. 22. Money taken each occasion ranged from $120 to $531.

On Jan. 29, Martin interviewed Mrs. Prevette at the North Wilkesboro Police Station.

He said Ms. Prevette cooperated during the interview and admitted taking money from her cash drawer at SunTrust Bank while employed there. She was suspended before the investigation for a policy violation unrelated to the embezzlement charges.

The report said that in the interview, Ms. Prevette stated that she was addicted to pain medication and had a relapse during the time the money was taken.

"She said she is addicted to pain pills, and is currently seeking treatment for her substance abuse addiction at Mountain Health Solutions in North Wilkesboro," Martin wrote in the report.

"She said she did not know how much money she had taken from the bank, but said she thought it was $2,000 in cash and she didn't know the exact dates or times when she took the money," Martin stated.

Ms. Prevette was released from the Wilkes Detention Center on a $15,000 unsecured bond. She is due in Wilkes District Court on March 18.
