My bill was 159 last month and 260 this month for electric. Only difference was my propane heat was on this month. Why should propane heat raise my electric bill? I am going to request a new meter as the bill here is always 50-70 percent higher than other homes in the area. 2100 sq ft house. Thanks

We had to help pay my MIL's fuel bill. We had the tank filled up on 12-12-09 and it was $499.00 then they came and filled it again on 1-13-10 and it was another $525.00. So in other words she used $500.00 worth of fuel and she wasn't even there. We had to keep the heat running so the pipes wouldn't freeze. That really hurts.

my light bill with REA went up $60 last month and $118 this month. What is the matter? And everyone says we don't get an increase in SS dew to living expense, I don't quite understand why at the rate of increases in gas, food, electrical bills and groceries aren't considered increases. what do you think?

Yes, I do love the wood heat except in the mornings when it's really cold and the fire has died. Takes it awhile to get going good again. That's when I turn on my trusty little electric heater. Haven't used anything but wood heat for about 35 years.

My last bill with Duke Energy was 129.72 for 1622 Kwh, about .08 per Kwh. My brother lives in Va and gets his power from Appalachian Power and he says his charge per Kwh is .11. We could have it worse.

Electric bill came and covered the cold period, It was 53 for nov 63 for dec and 62 for jan so I saw no increase. Although the 200 gallons of missing propane at about 500 dollars more than made up for it.

My electric bill sky rocketed this month. It is usually higher and I was expecting it to be, but not as high as it was! Believe you me, my family is being more conservative now!

Maxlite, I think you need to go back through this thread and see just how much some of the power bills jumped, I think it was a little more than a few soft drinks! Go back and read mine for instance. Not home for 3 weeks, etc.

I can't beleive how short minded we are! The whole country has been talking about how cold it has been! Cold weather means more use of electricity. Holidays mean more electricity. Kids out of school mean more electricity used. Get the picture? If you keep your thermostat down at 68 it is still going to use electricity at 10 degrees. Where I am, we had over a week without the temp reaching 20 degrees each day. Check the rest of your finances--i bet you used more food this month too. Electricity is cheap for what you get for it. You spend more for a soft drink than the cost to run your computer for a day! bundle up and shut up.

My electric bill went up $97 this month and we were out of town for 6 days. Something does not seem right, but what can you do about it?
