So, taking the people's weapons works. Who would have thought?

By civilized you mean countries where those pesky peasants have been mostly disarmed, Like merry old England where even pocket knives are frowned upon

Acumen

In some civilized countries cops don't even carry guns.

I think we should defund the idots in congress that think this is a good idea

You are right Social Workers dont have to answer ever call and some seem to take their own sweet time responded to the ones they do answer. On several occasions in the past have waited hours for one to show up at a arrest scene to handle children

Maybe the 911 dispatcher has magical powers and can determine if a social worker can be sent.

Who has the crystal ball that determines whither a LEO or a social worker should answer a given 911 call?

I'm not sure I follow how you got to this point. Social workers aren't paid like police. Social workers don't have to answer every call. A dispatcher can determine some cases. Police and social workers can work in tandem. Police can learn to help in an mental health crisis.

So what does any of that have to do with picking and choosing?

When you are a patrol officer you have to answer 911 calls you cant pick and choose, If its in your area you handle the call. If other officers are busy you cover calls in their areas and visa versa

Not here they don't have never heard our dispatcher send out a social worker. Unless a officer calls and requests one to to be sent they are not part of the 911 system here

Do you really even know any social workers that cannot be lured into a fiery furnace with a donut?

JustKnow

They do it every day.

So you really think they are going to answer 911 calls with out knowing whats out there waiting on them when they get there?

JustKnow

Lol....you may want to check on that. Social workers, the ones who really deal with mental health issues on the frontline do not make more than a police officer.

LEOs do have training in deescalation and mental health issues. Maybe not at the level of health care professionals but then again they don't get paid as much as health care workers either

Well glad you agree then, police may be better off if they have some training or experience in deescalating and recognizing mental health crisis.

You wouldn't want to send a social worker who is not trained to use a firearm into a situation while they are armed would you?

Am just trying to point out that sending Unarmed social workers out to answer calls with no idea of the level conflict involved till they get there is a recipe to get some of them killed

Good. Im glad the officers assist with social workers! We already know that. I know it's hard to wrap your mind around, but again, why cant there be better solutions to complex problems? It's not always as simple as it may seem.

And in case you dont realize it LEOs here get called to escort social workers all the time. Seems they have a little more concern for their own safety than you would have us believe . Ask LEO who posts on here if you dont believe me
