His son hung himself in the jail. Last name of settle. The deputy that lives in the house where the child was beaten to death was at the center of a mulit million dollar lawsuit where the sheriffs beat that man out in boomer. He was sweating the out come at one time . the county settled out of court. He'd been living there couple of years when that happened.

At one time there was about twelve entitled to that place. Not a single one wanted it. One other things .... As far as I know of the last person that hung himself in the Wilkes jail..... Father had moved on to church st only a few years earlier. That was 4-6 years ago. Now he has charges for selling pills. Live s just across from the graves.

I wouldn't want to live in a house where a child had been beaten to death.

Early 1960's,the man who lived closest to the unmarked graves drove a truck for holly farms . He struck a child with the truck and killed the child. For years after that he almost drank himself to death didn't work even tho it wasn't his fault. He finally after years he pulled out and had a good life . the latest victim of the curse was the young man who was raised at the end of the ridge. About 5 -6 years ago he was shot and killed in a bad drug deal over sun crest . only a little over a half mile as the crow fly's from the ridge.

It's my understanding Wilkes was a union county. There weren't any slaves. Correct me of I'm wrong.

Growing up there my grandma all said it was cursed. There's a unmarked graves of at least 20 slaves in the middle of the ridge. As long as I can remember its been one tragedy after the other. The family at the end of the ridge near the river one brother killed his brother back in the 1940s. The house where the deputy lives now a father beat one of his children so badly that it died a few days later. Late 1948 I think . a small child drowned In a pond on that ridge . 1972. Everyone that grew up on that ridge has had 2/failed marriages. Every one that has moved in there in the last ten years have had relatives die unexpectedly or has gotten into serious crimes. Old timers couldn't keep cows because they were always vdieing without explanation. Grand ma was right that ridge is cursed. The unmarked slave graves? That's what I think it is.
