The challenge is to know what to compromise on and what cannot be compromised for the good of the nation.

I'd argue that one of the biggest problems with current political discourse in this country is that "compromise" has lacking. It is treated as a negative attribute, even though political action generally requires compromise. When the leaders elected to represent the people can't compromise, then nothing gets done. Whether business, personal or political, successful relationships require an adequate amount of healthy compromise.
