Cats suck breath from babies... FALSE!

It may not be because they believe that will happen. It may be a personal choice. I'm not a cat person. I'm allergic. So, I really can't voice for or against a cat. I can say that if I choose to remove ANY pet because I believe it may affect the well being of my child, then that doesn't make me ignorant, mean or cruel. Just a good parent. It doesn't mean that the cats were not loved. It just means that the baby will be loved MORE then a cat. That's o.k. folks.

Have a cat named Miss Kitty who is so intelligent! She used to walk baside us when I walked the dog. The dog died of old age but she will still walk beside me if I go for a walk! If I play too rough with her she will nip me a little to show me I am getting too rough. She commands respect and gets it.

It would be stupid to leave a cat in a baby's crib. Too many chances of the baby getting scratched as children may not realize they may be tormenting the cat.

This generralizing "Cats are nasty animals that crap in the house. Only good cat is a dead cat" is stupid as it does not speak for all of them. Just like generalizing about anything. It ain't fair.

Miss Kitty senses when I am very lonely as she will want to come inside. Otherwise she is happy outside. She is very clean, has never even used the cat box inside. She will wait until she is outside. Somebody just dropped her and her kittens off several years ago ....how lucky can ya get?

The only thing our family cat has done that even remotely has irritated the children is lick them on their heads when they were babies. I joke that perhaps our feline didn't think my babies were clean enough.

Figure out how to teach a cat to push flush, and you can say the same

Huh. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if more kids die from dog attacks or cat attacks? I've...got a hunch.

The superstitions are true....every time a cat meows, a child finds out that Santa Claus isn't real

that's just funny

Bites and stings combined account for 4% of injuries in babies under the age of 1:

http://www.cdc.gov/safechil...round.html

The top cause of injury, by far, is falling or being struck by something.

If you're going to get rid of your cat for fear that there might be a bit or scratch, then you should get rid of all of your furniture, too. There's a much, much greater chance that your kid will be hurt by falling off the sofa than by getting a serious bite from your cat.

They aren't a problem really around the baby, but once the kid can move around and get to the cat, that's when the danger is present. Like I said, as a pediatrician.

AA, you're an idiot!

" their teeth are sharp, unlike dogs' "

It's not like they're trained baby-attacking cats!

They may not suck the breath out of babies, but they are dangerous to children. Talk to any pediatrician or nurse in a peds office. They have more injuries from cars than dogs. Scratches are bad to infect or even give catch scratch fever. Their teeth are sharp unlike dogs, and often bite through small children's fingers. A smart person would get rid of the cat

Seems the cats are very "beloved" after all.

Superstitious people sure have some ignorant beliefs. The only cure for that is education.

I saw that someone in the classifieds said they had to get rid of their cats because they have a new baby.

The belief that babies "suck breath from babies" is just an old wives tale! There has actually only been one reported case of that happening, and the autopsy found that the baby had already died before the cat jumped in the crib to snuggle:

It makes me really sad for people to give up a beloved family pet due to ignorance.
