I grew up Baptist, and have never experienced a Communion. I thought it was something only Catholics and Lutherans did.

Bestill, in your rush to inject your venom you overlooked a couple of things. First, the OP is not asking about the Catholic church, it is a Baptist church. Second, I think you should review the definition of communion, in your quest to discourage and disparage Baptist you are trying to redefine communion. Finally the only shunning I see taking place is you.

Teapot, You are a very level-headed person and have presented communion as clear and precise as anyone could. Religionseeker with the information from Teapot and maybe a cordial conversation with the pastor I feel sure you will be satisfied with the correct answers to your question

You will get lots of negative responses from those who do not understand, but folks that have communion with Christ in the realities of life on a daily basis will be your best source for information concerning the Communion Service conducted in the assembly of the church.

Unless, the church practices closed communion, which some do, so best to just ask so you don't get shunned.

It is not a real communion so anybody can eat the crackers and drink the grape juice at Baptist churches.

religionseeker, go with teapot's answer to your question. It is a very holy and special service done in remembrance of Christ's sacrifice for us. It should be a short service since it is only a communion, but will always be a special time of quiet reflection and reverence. You won't be disappointed if you attend. Merry Christmas!

Catholic kids get real wine, except, it is not wine, it is the blood of Christ. You cannot take communion in a Catholic Church until you go through some sacraments.

Myke, children and teens also participate. Can't give them wine! Grape juice is just a happy medium. It's all symbolic anyways. Take it for what it represents.

I always sneak my own in in a flask. The deacons never say anything because I always share it with them.

This shows the extent that Baptists are hipocrits. They cannot bring themselves to partake of wine as the blood of Christ and instead substitute grape juice. This is so phony.

Unsalted crackers at that. Don't get excited over the free snack

Communion is a special service in which participants, who are Christians, remember Christ's sacrifice for us. This service is done in remembrance of the Last Supper in which Jesus broke bread at the table and told his disciples that it represented his body. He served wine and told them that this represented his blood, which was shed for the remission of sins. Baptists participating in this service eat unleavened bread and drink grape juice to remember this act. Typically, deacons serve the bread and "wine" to the people in the church. If you do not feel comfortable participating, simply pass the plate with the crackers or juice to the next person in the pew. Before partaking of the Lord's Supper, you should take a moment to quietly reflect on your life and ask forgiveness for sin. Do not let anxiety or lack of understanding of this ceremony keep you from church. It is a beautiful ceremony that honors our Lord.

First of all, I was never raised in church. I attended on occasion with my grandmother, but never on a regular basis. My children have been attending church and this morning I decided to join them. I felt very welcome in this church, and plan to go back every chance I get. They are having a communion service on Tuesday evening, and no services on Wed. due to it being Christmas Eve so that time can be spent with family and worshiping among each other. My question is, what exactly is a communion service? Is it something that anyone can/should attend, or something that only members of the church should attend? Im not sure that it makes any difference, but the church I am talking about is a Baptist church. Thanks in advance for any insight that you all may have to offer!
