We all know that the JP greatly embellishes the number of attendees, that's pretty obvious. But who cares? It's really just a matter of... if you don't like it, don't go.

I don't like bluegrass, so I don't go.

I feel bad for the businesses that have such a slow week, but the same complaint could be said for Spring Break, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, not to mention the Apple Festival. These are expected to be slow weeks, and there's nothing you can really do about it.

Those who want to stay away from this international event..is their choice...the county coffers benefits. .I enjoy the music and seeing folks from other parts of the country and the world...so stay home and let others enjoy...

TooMuch: Carolina in the Fall is growing; and there will be a new one-the peach Festival this summer. In case anyone thought I was complaining about the Merlefest weather-I wasn't. I love Merlefest. My family has volunteered in one way or the other for 15 years or so-or I have been fortunate to win tickets on a couple occasions. Merlefest is a blast!

It's always the slowest week of the year for us, so I don't know if it does businesses any good at all unless they're right there.

Everyone that goes to Merlefest eats at the festival, so restaurants don't get any new business. And people that don't go to Merlefest either stay home or go out of town, so they don't get any old business, either. Same goes for shopping.

I'm sure that some people make a ton of money on it, but it's really tough on a lot of us.

Maybe I have not been on here long enough, but all the posts I see from the OP are always negative. Maybe they need to move or change the thing in their life making them so unhappy.

Bluegrass music is not my thing at all. I have no desire to attend Merlefest. But I am happy it is here for the people who do love bluegrass music. The hotels get good business for the week. Some restaurants get pretty good business before and after the event. All of which would not happen if the event was not here.

Folks can volunteer for 4 hrs and have the rest of the day to enjoy Merlefest.Traffic is bad on Main Street and near the college but I’m glad we have all the visitors and money flowing thru the county.

I thought about going, but then I'm to cheap and poor to afford it. When 70 bucks could be used to feed me or pay a bill. No fun for this fat cat.
