Roy Carter also used a football field (not sure where) to film a commercial. Not sure where in the district this took place, but I can almost guarantee lighting one of those babies for any length of time is EXPENSIVE. You can find the video on youtube. Someone might recognize the field. North?

what about churches that use schools for meeting places? that has happened several times in the county. (I think it is fine if rent is being paid, but I am wondering how people feel about schools being the site for church functions.)

No different than Roy Carter using the NWHS booths at the Apple Festival to campaign and sell his T-Shirts. He also handed all of his stuff out to the kids at school. Direct violation of WCS Policies, look it up.

Actually, For Wilkes, East will likely MAKE money off this dinner. Not a great deal of money, obviously, but hey, 20 extra bucks can buy a couple of boxes of Kleenexes.

MIDDLE SCHOOLS HAVE NEVER BEEN ON A BALLOT. IN THE 90'S THE SCHOOL BOND WAS FOR HIGH SCHOOL RENOVATIONS. FACT, CHECK IT OUT. VOTING AT THE SCHOOLS IS FOR ALL TAX PAYERS AND NOT FOR THE POLITICAL GAIN OF 1 person.

We vote at the schools! Is there a problem there too?

FOR WILKES, first of all, I don't want to come across as making you feel like I'm downplaying your feelings on the matter. Or, to insinuate that you are not up with things. But, technically the public schools are a government facility and they can do as they wish without asking permission. As long as they pay for it, I could care less if they use it. At least they are making a buck off of the scumbags. Now if they were getting to use it for free, that is a different story all together.

Most of the political forums that you speak of are held, normally at 7pm at night. Most of the working people are off of work by then. It's up to the citizens to make arrangements to attend these functions if it is their desire to do this. Some of the commissioners and board of education folks have normal jobs that they have to attend when time allows.

As for the middle schools, it was put on the ballot back in the early 1990's. The county, from what I remember, voted against it. However, I work in another county and see mobile units all over the place. I much prefer my child to be able to attend a school that has modern facilities (that has air conditioning, toilets that aren't 100 years old, etc) than to have to endure spending that time in a mobile unit. Let's face it, there are a lot more children going to school than there was when I started school.

I'm not sure how you think insurance works. The schools have to have liability insurance in case someone gets hurt there. That is not something that is cut on/off for just regular school hours or for just school functions. It has to be maintained throughout the year 24/7/365.

Now as for thinking carefully before going out to vote...I agree with you totally, 100%. However, until these folks out here quit thinking along politial lines (republican or democrat) and start voting for the person for where they stand on the issues, then it does no good to preach that. It's like talking to a brick wall. Most of this county is a republican county, and so, therefore, most of those in office right now are republicans. And all you hear from everyone is that we need to vote all those that are in, out. But, unfortunately, we keep voting the same crooked folks into office, because we sure don't want to vote against our own party.

I UNDERSTAND THAT RENT IS PAID, BUT I STIIL DON'T THINK IT IS THE PLACE FOR SUCH A EVENT. THEY ARE OTHER FACILITIES AVAILABLE FOR RENT OTHER THAN OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS. I HAVE NEVER BEEN ASKED IF I APPROVED OR NOT BUT MY TAX DOLLARS WAS USED TO BUILD THESE FACILITIES. THIS IS MY MAJOR COMPLAINT THAT OUR TAX DOLLARS ARE USED AND ABUSED BY ELECTED OFFICIALS AND TAX PAYERS ARE NEVER ASKED WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT IT. OUR POLITICIANS LOCALLY HOLD FORUMS THAT MOST WORKING PEOPLE CAN NOT ATTEND. A LOT OF ISSUES NEED TO BE VOTED ON BY THE TAX PAYING PUBLIC. WHY WHERE THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS NEVER PUT ON A BALLOT? WHY DID THE ENGINEER GO SEVERAL THOUSAND OVER BUGET? WHY ARE OUR SCHOOLS RENTED OUT FOR POLITICAL RALLIES. HAS ANY ONE ASKED A QUESTION WHAT IF SOMEONE GETS HURT, FALLS DOWN, DO OUR SCHOOLS HAVE INSUARNCE TO COVER THIS. I KNOW THEY CARRY INSUARANCE FOR SCHOOL FUNCTIONS, BUT THIS IS NOT SCHOOL RELATED. I COULD GO ON & ON BUT THIS IS GOOD FOOD FOR THOUGHT. THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU VOTE.

do you know for a fact that our tax dollars supported a political rally? Most of the time when these events occur, they have rented the building and the rally usually has a cost plate or the one hosting is the one who pays for the food. I want facts, not assumptions.

I'm with ya for wilkes! We have children in this county who have to get on the bus at 4:55 AM everyday do a 3 hr. ride to school then afterwards have a 3 hr. ride home....those dollars need to be used to help these poor kids be home at a decent hour instead of spending almost another whole school day's time on the bus!!! And they want to help test scores improve....GO FIGURE!!!!

Who authorized a political ralley and pig pickin at a Wilkes County School. My tax dollars for education is great, but I did not authorize MY TAX DOLLARS to support a political PARTY. I don't beleive the people in the East Wilkes Distict would support this either
